Wednesday, May 30, 2007 The Battle of the Needs ![]() We have that, almost every morning, at our house. Actually, the Battle of the Needs also goes on around meals. And at all other times we hang out, the three of us. Battle goes on at all levels of that weird 5 stage triangle. But the mornings are worst. Lowest level battle vs. next to top level battle. Baby needs food. Dad needs his sleep. Mom needs her shower before dad has to rush off to work. Sleepy dad looses first round, gets up and mom gets to take a shower. Baby stands knocking on the bathroom door, crying loudly because dad's need to recharg his phone and check his messages won second round of The Battle of the Needs this morning. Everybody's lacking sleep and probably wouldn't be battling like this if the baby had not lost last night's battle, when the parents need for gardening won over baby's needs for dinner. The parents victory resulted in a late night dinner without the baby, the baby going to bed after a "five grape dinner" (hmm, am I more tired or more hungry?), thus waking up starving. The mom looses all battles badly by falling deeply into the "me ALWAYS attends baby's needs, me better parent" trap. Eventually, everybody gets their needs met and the house is quiet again. Boy has bread in his stomach, mom feels clean and as fresh as one can be after a bad case of stomach flue followed by a day ending with gardening until around midnight. Now she can start battling with the baby for the peace to enjoy a cup of tea. Baby wins, every morning. Tea always ends up cold. Dad takes a shower and goes up and paints a window before heading off to work. Typical morning in the Deer family. ![]() Please holla if you recgognize. Labels: News from the home front posted by Skotta | 10:39 AM |Saturday, May 26, 2007 Looks like I'm going to be missing out on a birthday party tomorrow. Cause of absence: Chicken Pox. Shite. Well, the only thing beating this is the fact that my beloved mother turned 75 this week and I didn't remember her birthday. She's the best mum. I suck as a daughter. Labels: I suck posted by Skotta | 10:54 PM |I found my tapes. I dug them up after finding my tape player. There are some jewels in there, like the sound project we made at art school (edited with a razor blade) and the one Rod Summers sent me while we were still in touch. And then there were the Tavares: ![]() The Tavares saved my spirit. They did so 6 years ago and they did so today when I played them for Minilla. Minilla is a dancer, he loves music, and he was digging The Tavares. We had a rough night. My little one awoke at 5:15 AM and threw up a couple of times. So I cleaned puke a couple of times. I changed my mind. I don't want to be the mommy. I want to be the daddy. Daddies get to go out and play while mommies stay home and clean puke. Labels: Now listening posted by Skotta | 9:11 PM |Friday, May 25, 2007 Wello, wello. Home alone for the weekend. Well, alone as one can be with a spotted baby. You know what this means!? Skotta's escapades on the internet will be giving you loads of fun and games! ![]() You might ask, what is the cause of my solitude? AB is having a weekend with the other Gelendewagen enthousiaists. (Do you spell it like that? Enthousi ... ists? Is there such a word?) Again, for those who just tuned in, a Gelendewagen is a Mercedes Benz from what they call the 300 GD series. Roughly translated, Gelendewagen means terrain car or in a more simple language: A jeep. Yup. There are a few of them, those guys who like jeeps, in this God forsaken, completely and utterly flat country. A Danish jeep enthousiast/ist (whatever) is a term that makes an Icelander giggle. My mad Dane has not only rolled around three times up in the Icelandic highlands in this specific car, he also shipped the wreck to Denmark (where it now stands in my garage), bought a new (old) one and shipped that one to Iceland! And then he hooks up with the others for a weekend and they drive around in mud and rivers and in the dark using GPS and stuff. He only got to go because he promised me to come back filled with all that yummy testosterone I so like. Talking about fun and games. Besides, I'm counting the days ... because I am going to have as many days off eventually. He also did this last year and left me with a newborn so I guess I have almost a week off now. You see, I am going to go to Spain with my homegirl in August. Neither one of us can afford it but we are very well connected ... ![]() Never been to Spain. Okay, here's the kudos part: Two of my girls are giving birth in the next couple of weeks time. One here in Denmark, the other one in Austin, Texas. Brave women, both of them. If you girls are reading me, just know that I am thinking of you and sending love and strength. You won't be reading me much after the birth ... I had a chat with AB's mother today. Told her that if it was up to me I'd be doing nothing but breeding from now to menapause. She loved that. Labels: News from the home front, Of fun and games posted by Skotta | 8:16 PM |Wednesday, May 23, 2007 Well. Here are the news: Minilla has chicken pocks. Or at least, that is what I think it is called. I have informed all parents of kids he has been near for the past couple of weeks. Except of course the parents of the boy he got it from. Minilla is a happy little chap, very strong, has not gotten fever and doesn't itch. So far, so good. We are still pink clouding the house experience, just loving it. Not writing yet another post about that. I am procrastinating on my job search. My closest friends tell me I have a bigger fear of succeeding than failing. Funny, I can't really feel that one myself. What I do feel is that I don't want to apply for my dream job becaus if they say no, my dream, my hope of the job of my dreams, flies out the window. Life sucks without hope. And I have decided, in my little head, that this job is the only interesting gig in town. Without that I have nothing. I have a cure for this. I have just been so bad at taking my medicine lately through the years ... except when it was "Norskir brjostdropar". Can't believe I am doing this, can't belive I am up at this hour. Have to write a post. Yes, I am online again, and this time on a high speed internet connection that beats all. And they were ready on the 9th, just like they said they would. I don't think I have experienced that with a phone company ever before. This gives me faith. I have visitors from out of town. They have been here for the weekend and are leaving tomorrow morning. I have done everything in my power to get them to come visit again. I must have done something right, this evening they were checking out Danish universities online. Sweeeet. (Got Paul giggling). Cross your fingers. UCLA might win though. All hell has broken loose in Danish politics. I might get back to you on that one. So, if you are still reading me, you check these links out now: Paul for his great artwork and Jesi for her beautiful writings. My guess is that the Queen will take special interest in both links. And in case you didn't notice, here's the her latest column. Wicked funny. (Probably got Paul giggling again). And most importantly, here is the woman who won the Eurovision Song Contest this year: ![]() Proud to say I voted for her. Prouder to say that I have Eurovisionised the home completely. AB and I sat one on each chair in front of the computer, like hens on a stick, as we say in the old language, not being able to tear ourselves away from the crazy show Helsinkin hosted last night. All the new east block countries are giving the competition new energy and adding to the already rich cultur exposure. Serbia competed for the first time and lets hope their national budget can hold hosting Eurovision next year. And last but not least: Very proud to say that my brother-in-law was probably the hottest item on the premises in Helsinki this last week. The guy is a genious and we envied him immensly for being on location. Oh, yeah, and I love my baby. Labels: News from the home front, Of fund and games posted by Skotta | 1:59 AM |Wednesday, May 02, 2007 Logging on through my 3G connection. It costs a fortune so we only use it for paying bills. I'm cheating. We should get the internet and phone connection soon. In the meantime, I have probably lost my English. These are the news: We are on a pink cloud with this house thing we got ourselves into. My garden is a jungle. Not kidding. There is not a flower that grows in Denmark that doesn't grow in my garden, in ample amounts. I keep picking leaves and pedals off things to bring to AB's mum who then tells me if it is weed or not. So far, it is all planted and something that gives flowers. I have counted 14 blooming sorts so far and the garden is still revealing itself. We moved out of the living room and into one of the bedrooms. All of a sudden the house feels huge. And we still have an un-inhabited room we are painting. I sunbathed in my garden without having to consider anyones delicate nature but my own. Loved that. It is summer over here and we are happy. I am looking for a job. My dream job is at this place: www.tv-glad.dk Of course they are going for world dominance so I must get a job there. So I am calling on all of you powerful women and men to send me the good energy for my application. They have no money but growing pains. I already visited them once and managed to charm the boss into wanting to talk to me directly once I show up with my papers. I told him I was a genious. And now, of course, I have to live up to that!
