I'm home.

The weather is amazing. It has rained and been foggy, and it has been sunny and bright. Summer in Iceland is beautiful. This is the most beautiful place on Earth.

The trip went well.
A little bit stressful, but all in all a success. Baby boy has travelled with airplane for the first time, two days after celebrating his second month in this world. He did brilliantly.
Don't know if other passengers on the plane agree.

When we arrived, two bags were missing.
I can't say I was surprised, the chaos at Kastrup airport was unbelievable on the day we travelled.
Anyways, I was missing my beauty box. All my make up, all my stuff, electric toothbrush, toothpaste, expensive make up brushes, shampoo, soaps, sanitary pads, creams, shaver and shaving cream ... you name it, all a girl needs to feel relatively human.

They told me it was almost certain the bag wouldn't appear. The other bag arrived a day later. Again, we were told that there was not really a chance the other bag would be found. All my toilet articles were gone in one whiff.

I wanted to see if I could get the airlines to pay for some of the stuff so I made a list.
Then I went shopping.
These were things I needed, no way I was going without my toothbrush for this trip, and I have to go to two parties this weekend, one being a wedding.
I needed my make up.

It was fun power shopping at Debenhams. I also went to Hagkaup supermarket and to Lyfja pharmacy, and to Ormsson electric store.

OMG, the money I spent!

You'd never imagine how much just your basic kit costs.
You need tweezers and stuff.
Everything.
Those are things you gather over years and years. If you run out, you go and splurge on a new mascara.
And I am the type that owns my make up for years and years because I don't use it on a daily basis.

Have you ever had a new of everything?
It's a fun feeling.

Until the airlines call you and tell you that they found your bag and it will be arriving between 4 and 5 pm.

We are off to Iceland tomorrow.
Jeep got on the boat safely this evening.
We are almost all packed.
Spirits are high.

I still have a list of things to do before 10 am tomorrow.

And now my baby is calling me.

Things are boiling in Denmark.

The heat is killing.
Our moods are lethal.
Stress level is high.

We are getting closer to the big trip to Iceland.
There are millions of things to do before we leave.
It is insane!

My salvation came in the form of a 12 year old.

She is my arms and legs these days so I am getting a hell of a lot more done. It is so apreciated. On top of it, she is always in a good mood.

My long list of things to do doesn't get any shorter though.
Eventually I called my sister, crying and asked for help.
She is making phone calls for me that take her 5 minutes and take me 5 hours.

You see, I have a perfect baby.
He sleeps during evenings and nights and is awake during office hours.
And because he is such a nice little boy he falls asleep when his mother puts him to bed.
For about 15 minutes at a time.

Mother keeps trying to put him to sleep, and succeeds.
Baby, not tired but obedient, keeps falling asleep, taking power naps and waking up during phonecalls to customs personel in Iceland.

I am so happy I have a big family that is there for me when I go bananas.

So, if it rains tomorrow I am going to the Zoo with my niece who is a world traveller but has never seen a zoo.
If it is sunny, we are going to the mall so I don't fry my baby.

But before that, there are just a few things I have to get done ...

It is not all stress.
We bought a tent.
We took a drive in the sun with the roof down.

Eventually though, I will be home.

I refuse to be held hostage by another human being.

One of the things I live by.

How extreme can you get with a statement like that?
How much of an addict are you to refuse to let breast feeding stop you from blogging?

I made a choice to give birth to this baby.
I also made the choice to feed this baby so it could continue as a human in this world.
I now feel a bit limited by my choices.

I know this is a temporary situation but I can't help it, that on days like these, where he is screaming for my breast the whole day, my patience has limits.

Sleep, baby, sleep!
Take a nap, goddamit!

Baby is very good.
Goes to sleep.
For about 10 minutes.

Guess how many things you can get started during those 10 minute naps?
Now, guess how many things you don't finish?

Well.

I need my grown up time.
Baby need it's breast.

Enters The Rice Pillow.

Portable.
Both hands free!

So guess who's making me take a break now so he can burp?

Another motto, a new one:
Sane mommy, better mommy.

My favorite part of the safety instructions has always been

If the cabin air system should fail, oxygen masks will be released from the panel just above your seat. Stay in your seat and pull the mask towards you to open your oxygen supply. Place it over your mouth and nose as quickly as possible and adjust the band to secure it. Then breath normally. Do make sure your own mask is correctly fitted before helping anyone else.

Okay, two things.

I got so tired of my Tag Board being spammed that I took it out.
Cry with me, because I took my counter out too.

I just know that I must have reached nine thousand visits because last time I checked I was so close.

I still feels sad.

The only thing cheering me up is that my little baby just farted loud and clear. He is definetly a part of the clan, has got my genes, because he farts like a general (as we say in Icelandic).
He is definetly a Hammers.
Anyone see the Nutty Professor, the scene where he brings home the girlfriend to a family dinner?

Let me now try to save this counter situation before he awakes.

The perfect cup of tea ...

... apparently comes with a good looking man, according to www.dragonflyteas.com.

I am having my own perfect cup of tea.
This means, house is in good shape, all machines working, baby is fed and sleeps, cave man is out hunting, and cave woman has her laptop and is drinking her English Breakfast out of a mug that reads Don't Mess With Texas.
Don't need a good looking man, already have two.

Lovely.

The nurse was here this morning and gave me a thumbs up on the baby and a green light to go camping in Iceland. She gave me a number of sharp replies to throw at people who will sneeze at a mother who takes her 2 month old camping.
Like: "The nurse said it was fine".

I have a healthy, happy baby.
I like him so much that I like him when he cries. He can cry all he wants, I will still think he is the most beautiful baby in the world. You don't need to know what he looks like, just trust me on this one.
I can't imagine ever getting tired of him.
(Mothers of the world, you can laugh now).

A short note to the people in Iceland:
I am there for a month and a half. This should give you ample time to see the baby. I will be holding court at my mother's house as I have discovered that travelling with a baby is a lot of work. A baby comes with all this extra stuff, needs a new diaper all the time and a new set of clothes a few times a day.
So, come visit me in Klapparhlid.

Yes.

So what's new from this side of the world (apart from the lesbians)?

Well, my little family survived the summer house weekend. We did really good. Ate good food, slept well, took nice walks, put down boundaries ...

Another note to the people in Iceland:
Turns out I am Lion Mom.
I roar at people and I might even bite your head off if you make a wrong move towards my baby.
There.
Said it.

Perfectly healthy and happy mom.
Kudos to the girlfriends who gave me the Lion Mom metaphore.

And last, but not least, a tribute to my brother who goes backwards with his wife, and to the Oracle who tells that childrens birthday parties are not her cup of tea (with or without a good looking man, I presume):

I don't call everything my grandma.
