You remember I told you about the conflict around the Youth House (Ungdomshus) in this neighbourhood?

Well.
The police has gotten a permission to clear the house. This means that the people who have sat on the roof of the Ungdomshus with their bricks ready will be getting some action.
The fond that was willing to buy the building was been offered to buy another building for the youth since this one obviously was not for sale. This did not fit them so negotiations have come to a close.

And today, at 3 pm, the mayor is having a meeting with the Ungdomshus representatives. She wants to know what they are doing to prevent riots like the ones in December.

I like her.

For those who didn't follow the news, our hood was completely fucked up by these people in December. Peoples cars were ruined, local stores were trashed. Insurance doesn't cover stuff like this so the few people left in the hood who sympathized with the youth kinda stepped off the train there.
This is not a rich hood, there are a lot of immigrants, old people and young people who don't earn a bunch. And this is a hood known for strong socialistic tendencies.

You have to respect the police that now holds meetings at the local college and high schools to talk to youngsters about participating in the riots. They are trying to keep the kids away so to save them from getting a brick in the head or a criminal record.
The police has also distrebutet flyers warning people to stay away.

This hood has seen it's share of street fights.
There were riots here in the 80's and people are bracing themselves for long and hard battles.

AB lived here during the riots in the 80's so he has me on a short leash these days. Back then the police closed the streets so you couldn't get to or from your house for days. The police now has permission to cut of mobile phone communication so there is a risk we can't use the phone.

We have discussed where I am to go with the boy if I can't get in.
We have food and diapers in the house to help us through at least a week.
Apart from that it's just life as usual.

I can't help wondering if this society has left out teacing it's children how to loose. It is so hard not being a good looser because it is a fact of life that you can't win them all.

Sorry you guys who only read "foreign languages", but to the rest of you, here is a link in Icelandic. This writer calls herself Mengella and has something on her mind. I loved reading this but then again, you know me, I tend to lean to the dark side.
Enjoy!

Tidbits.

Today's news.
Bored Stiff wants to be my friend on MySpace.
Minilla had a happy moment finding an old cracker on the floor.
Yummy.

We got a letter yesterday saying that Minilla has gotten a place in day care. He can start on the 15th.

The fact that I was overenjoyed told me that we are ready for this.
We don't have any play dates and haven't had a chance to go to the playrooms (there are open playrooms in every neighbourhood in the city where you can come for free) as much as I have wanted to.
The boy is in much need for playmates. He is excellent playing by himself but he is both curious and interested in other kids and will have a hard time adjusting if I keep him away from other kids much longer.
He came home with some scratches from the playroom and all I could say to AB was "you should have seen the other kid".

I have neglegted doctors appointments (try taking a crawling baby to the gyno) and such so I am really looking forward to a few hours of time to do all the stuff I need to do. And the house!
And sorting out my carrieer future, it being a job or school.

And we have a month to get used to the thought. Not that I'll have any problems since I know he is a very well adjusted kid who loves hangin out more interesting people than me.
He will be 11 months when he starts and who knows, maybe he'll walk by then?
Not too bad.

My hilarius baby is trying to put my sneaks through the bars of the safety gate I have put in the door to keep him from the kitchen.

Sorry I don't post pics of Minilla and sneakers, but you get the picture anyway.
I know you do, you creative people with vivid imaginations.

Now picture this: Minilla throwing up, for the last hour or so, small portions of the yoghurt I gave him. Puke yoghurt over my sports bag.
Or rather, puke over my vintage bag I use to stor my sneaks permenently times because I never visit the gym.

I also want to wish two of my people a happy birthday.
My girl Aquarian, and actually my sister Aquarian who both always remember my birthday, and my Wonderboy who had the theme b-day party. I seriously considered showing up as a secret guest and getting the price. I opted for staying in the same country as the woman whom I had promised to hang out with while she gave birth. You know how it goes with hormones.
Just don't provoke ...

I want you to go check out the tune "oops pass the edit" by the man who put the rythm in my boy Minilla. Yes, I'm talking about DJ Platurn.

Special greeting to my readers in Canada.

I just checked my traffic reports.
I got an average of 47 visits per day last week and that blows my mind.
You guys are a really faithful bunch.

Minilla is keeping me very busy.
Fortunately, this crawling business gets him very tired so he sleeps well.
He is loving his new "cell pone" and he repeats "hi, hi!" when the phone tells him "Farvel" in Danish. He has caught the rythm of the greeting and now loves it when people leave and wave.
I guess this can be counted as first word, apart from mama which he generously says to just about everyone. I think the mama is more of a sound than a word to my little boy.

I have a mountain of laundry to fold. I am looking forward to my new house because I will not fold a thing after I have moved. I will devide clean clothes into three piles or three baskets and then it's each to their own.
The only reason I am folding now is that there is no space for three baskets.
So much for my houswifely duties.

We have pinned a measuring tape to the wall, one of those Ikea ones, and we cut an inch off for every day that goes until we get the keys to our house.

It keeps our spirits up.
A good friend would call it a tool.

I saw Casino Royal last night.
Lovely movie.
Lovely, lovely.
Made me realize that the Queen is a genious and that her Christmas calender was awesome.
The movie had some very cool retro shots that I really, really liked, and the graphichs in the beginning were awesome.
I have to say that there has been a more awesome title song in the history of Bond movies.
And needless to say, I think AB would love seeing this movie.

Me and my homegirl had a girl's night out.
AB is working a lot next week so this was my treat.

I loved going to the movies with a girlfriend and I was totally envious when she told me she had spent the whole day by herself.

Whatever.
I get to spend all next week with my lovely Minilla who is all over the place.

I just want to point out to you that it is that magic time again. It's Eurovision time.
Here you can see some of the Icelandic contestant. Horrid, horrid photos. The showdown in Iceland is on February 17th.
The showdown in Denmark was last night.
The winner was a man in drag and his song is called Drama Queen.

Here you have some more info on that guy and if you are lucky you can see the video.
I couldn't.

You might think that a man as a woman in Eurovision is news to the contest.
No, of course not.
Don't you remember Dana International who won for Israel in '89?
Although Dana is not a drag queen but a transsexual woman.
No feathers, all woman.

I want to point out to you all that my man Sveimhugi has 4 new tracks on his MySpace website.
Sveimhugi is one of Iceland's best DJ's, although not world famous in Iceland like so many others. That is actually a feat, because as you all know, it is easier to be famous in Iceland than unknown.

Go check him out. He is one of the brave ones, expressing real wiews through his art.

My nose bleeds.

Wanna know why?
Probably not but I'll share anyway.
Your choice, you're reading!

My nose bleeds because it is so bloody cold in Denmark today. The air here is so weird that it dryes up the thin skin inside my nose so it get soar and bleeds.
Weird country.

I got a visit from my neighbourh who is Elvis fan #1.
I now possess a copy of a CD called Elvis, Aloha from Hawaii, Via Satellite.
Beat that.
The cover is the shit.

I also got Promised Land.
Minalla's musical upbringing just got closer to The King.

I am exhausted.

I went way to late to bed because I posted a very long comment on the Queens page. Probably the reason I don't write about equal rights or feminism on this blog. I get over-enthousiastic.

There is no space on my desk.
My boy is crawling and when that happens, all hell breaks loose. He is ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!
Meaning that we are now running around picking up stuff that he can endager himself with. Minilla, on the other hand, has not been so happy in a month. He loves his new found freedom and is using it to the fullest.

Today I will go out and buy a rain suit and some boots for him so I can have him outside more. Now he can play on the ground even though it's winter because he won't just sit and freeze.

A lovely side effect to this moving baby is that he gets very, very tired since he is constantly using his body to the fullest.
Naps are longer.

I am now waiting for one of those because I haven't slept enough since I missed that night due to my lovely friends labour.
And now my boy is out of sight so I have to run into the kitchen!

I just came home from a 20 hour turn at the hospital.
My friend gave birth to a baby girl this morning.
We came in yesterday around 6 pm and the girl came out at 10:39 this morning.
It is now 1 pm and just came home.
I haven't slept.

All are exhausted but happy.
I am exhausted and I didn't even do any of the work!
Everyone is well.
The girl is absoloutly beautiful.
I couldn't help crying when she finally came out.
She is so perfect.

No rest for the wicked, I am to be up for a few more hours, attending to my own offspring, who was born in the same room at the same hospital little over 9 months ago.
He is out at Amma's in Ordrup, where poor Amma is stuck with dog and baby and poor dog can't go out to pee until I get there.
Amma is babysitting the dog for AB's sister while she is in Tailand.

So basically, I am not going to bed yet so that I can save doggy from developing a bad carpetpeeing habit.

We have been looking at tiles.

You can't imagine how tireing that can be.
Ones head goes completely bong bong.

There is a lot of weird stuff out there

and we have different tastes

so we can't make up our minds.
How does one pick tiles?
Do you go for something fun or something classic?
My problem with classic is that it is usually something "I could live with" but really bores me to death.
I tend to go for fun wich will ultimately drive us crazy!

Ces't la vie.

Minilla has learned to crawl much to our relief and terror. He had developed this howl that was really tireing but his bitch of a mother refused to indulge him and move him from place to place. This worked, he now crowls, and has stopped howling.
He is making such rapid developements these days.
Now we are just constantly alert because he goes everywhere.
Very happy chap.

We are at Amma's now. Amma i Ordrup, there is.
Amma i Ordrup is the Danish grandmother. In Danish, her grandmother title is Farmor (Father's Mother) but we have named her Amma, Icelandic style. In Icelandic, both father's mother and mother's mother (in Danish farmor and mormor) are called amma. In my family we define the ammas by location, so the Danish one is Amma i Ordrup (amma that lives in Ordrup) and the Icelandic one is Amma i Klapparhlid (amma that lives in Klapparhlid). In Danish, the farfar and morfar (paternal grandfather and maternal grandfather) would be the words used, while in Icelandic the word is afi.
Minilla has only an Afi i Klapparhlid because Afi i Ordrup passed away before Minilla was born.

So what else is new?

Minilla got a new toy.

I am a fan of Fisher Price.
Just because.
Nostalgic, I think.
I am a succer for packaging, labels that make me feel safe, etc.
It's horrible.
I bought some meat at the supermarket the other day just because it was packed the same way you get when you buy it fresh at the butchers.

Minilla wants to push buttons, he wants my phone, he wants the remote control.
He wants stuff made out of metal, not play safe plastic.
AB (or Godzilla, whatever you prefer) has gotten the assignment to get the little guy some stuff from his work. There should be plenty of old gadgets lying around out there where he works.

Well.
Other news.
I got a nice letter the other day which I have answered but not mailed yet.
It is a real letter, written with a pen!
I love those!!
I have a secret wish that the letter writer starts a blog but at the same time I get scared that if she blogged I wouldn't get a real letter again. I read on a serenity card another friend gave me, that most of the things we worry about are things that never actually happen. So I incourage her to blog about all her travels for the rest of us to enjoy. She is a terrific pen and a very bright and humorous person. She'd be a delight to read.
So there you have it.
Please start a blog.

And finally, the impending birth is making me and everybody around me stand on our toes. The courageous mother started the other night and then everything stopped. The mucus plug is out, followed by some contractions, so the baby will be here within the next couple of weeks.
That we kind of knew but the little earthquakes the other night got us into position.
We are all very happy and exited.
Everything is ready for the baby.

P.S.
I'll let you in on a little secret.
I might go to school again.
I'm looking into it and AB supports the idea 1000%.
How does Dr. Skotta sound to you?

I am, and will forever be a pacifist.

I know for a fact that everybody, at some point in their lives, experiences being a minority or being in a situation where they are a weaker part against a stronger part.
I believe that we all have a right to be here.
I belive that we all have a right to be heard.
I belive that most of us have to learn to loose an argument.
I believe in peacful solutions to conflicts.
I don't believe in war.
I listen to Helena Eyjolfsdottir.

And being a person who just wants everyone to be friends I can't help but share this interwiew with you. You might have seen this by now, I nicked it of another site and it is travelling fast through the internet.

It is an interwiew that Sky News made with George Galloway. I will just say that if anyone could make me a Hizbollah sympatiser, it would be Mr. Galloway. He has definetly scored them some points with the interwiew. You know me, I try not to take sides ...
There is though definetly a charm to a man who delclares in an interwiew:
"What a silly question. What a silly person you are."
Watch it.
Have an opinion.
