Friday, June 27, 2003 Very, very warm day... I have had a great day. Big victory in the case of the kid who has the new rule of not touching Katrin without asking permission. He actually looked at his hands gripping my arms and let go of me before trying again communicating verbally. Thank you Skinner. I am going to take my niece to Tivoli tomorrow, I am going to buy her a tourpass and she doesn't know it. For those who don't know, Tivoli is a huge old amusement park and a tourpass is a bracelet which lets you on all the rides as often as you can be bothered with standing in lines. She is ten and very excited to be visiting. She is at the movies now with my brother and his sons but when she gets back we are going to have a pedicure. I have wanted to tell you guys about this really good CD I bought the other day. I think this is one of the most ambitious CD's I have heard in a long time and I reccomend N*E*R*D to anyone with good music taste... Here is what Pharrell writes on their website: We're influenced by so much, from Stevie Wonder to Steely Dan, Donny Hathaway to America. I wanted to sing like the guy from America when I was younger and I tried to imitate it on this record. And Queen is the shit. I love classic rock. It's all that, man. Those artists didn't give a shit. The music spoke to you. My family would move around a lot so instead of just hearing Kool & The Gang and Earth, Wind & Fire and The Spinners, I was hearing Lynyrd Skynrd and AC/DC because we lived right by the Renegades, the Hell's Angels. When the new wave shit came around I was listening to things like Tears For Fears. I hope my friends in New York are able to breathe in this heat. I hope the humidity is not too bad and that my dearest in Purchase is cool out there. Maybe you guys are fishing this weekend? Let Italy continue in Purchase... posted by Skotta | 10:07 PM | Wednesday, June 25, 2003 Oh, loveley days with a lot of Icelandic candy... My familimembers are slowly showing up. First ones met last weekend. Two more last night. The Roskilde Festival is starting, which makes life fun for me. I am looking forward to Sunday when I will see Bjork live in Roskilde. What can I tell you? I am working and working and working and having fun with it. It seems that this workplace has one thing in common with my old workplace... I got kicked twice today and I got really close to kicking back. There is a kid there who has some problems with his temper. He is also fond of knives and I had to stop him going for the knife drawer in the kitchen. He wasn't happy. He also has a vivid vocabulary of swearwords to shower me with, and he does so frequently. Shame for him that my Danish isn't up to his... I have tried to explain this to the kid but he keeps on, still hoping for a reaction. He has a new rule now. It is called "Do not touch Katrin without asking for permission first". My job will be to teach him how to apply this rule to his daily contact with me. This is a hard one for me without getting to kick him back. He is getting better though. I am having him communicate with me verbally. This is done by not giving a reaction when he pulls me or shoves me or kicks me or whatever he decides to do to get my attention. Now he politely asks: "Katrin, will you come and help me" or, "Katrin, will you come and see this". Well, his sentences are more like: "Come here" and, "See", but we are working on it. I still love my job.
I also had an episode yesterday with a kid who told her mother that one of the staff hit her. Fortunately, I was a witness but the mother found us rough on her kid. I am not sure the staff member, who would have potentially lost his job because of the brat, agrees. He now fears being alone with the kid. She is a healthy kid who seems to have some normal issues, not like the one who kicked me who is brain damaged. Such is life for kids. posted by Skotta | 7:23 PM | Monday, June 23, 2003 ![]() Barbie Got Back! Go you! You're the closest thing ever to a true black Barbie. Shake that fat ass of yours. I am supposed to be figuring out how to log onto my banks web-bank. I found out that all the things I have them do at my bank is cheaper if I do it myself via the internet. Knowing that earlier I would have saved a lot of money. At leas enough for a pair of jeans. My bank knows this. Therefore they make it extremely difficult to log on. There is always a code somewhere that you can only get at the bank. After getting that code you get a new page with a new code that can only be gotten at the bank. I therefor doubt that I will be able to log on tonight. I might as well blog... Whod'a thought I was a punk? I found a nice blogspot by some guy. I kind of thought it was weird but read on and found his blogs to end really cool. Check him out here for a little bit of hope. posted by Skotta | 11:03 PM | ![]() Rock on, dude! You are Punk music! What type of music are you? brought to you by Quizilla posted by Skotta | 5:53 PM | Saturday, June 21, 2003 I have had really good days. Yesterday I worked for 13 hours and had fun the whole time. Today I woke up, went shopping for clothes and then to a 17. júní hátíð. 17. júní hátíð is a get-togeather where Icelandic people stand out in the wind and the rain, listen to speaches and eat hot dogs. I met up with more family members than I had imagined I'd run into in one go in a foreign country. I knew so many people there! I also ate hot dogs. Icelandic hot dogs, brand name SS. Icelandic candy was also available. Nice. Very Icelandic. Only Icelandic spoken. If it weren't for the fact that we were at the beach then we could have been in Iceland. The highlight of the gathering was the ambassadors speach. He said that Icelanders have been known throughout the centuries to come to Denmark and drink in the spirit of freedom. This is true, Icelanders are known in Denmark as either sober alcoholics or just plain drinking alcoholics. We have a reputation of coming over here to drink and live off the social system. He also said that Icelanders, being such a small nation were indeed in need of hot dogs to feed their souls. Only an Icelandic politician... banana republic of Iceland. One of the things that surprises me is how some people run when I say hi to them. I think I scare people. Now I have clean clothes to wear (thanks to shopping this morning), am going out to meet my bro and his son for dinner. posted by Skotta | 5:44 PM | Thursday, June 19, 2003 I am in a foul mood. My horrorscope reads: According to my reading of the astrological omens, you will soon encounter a big, fat obstruction to your creativity. While that may be demoralizing at first, it's actually a good omen. It means that a previously hidden problem is revealing itself; that an inner saboteur is no longer working in secret. It means you'll finally get a chance to fix an energy drain you didn't even know about. As a clue to help you in your noble struggle, Aquarius, I give you the words of novelist Joyce Carol Oates: "Writer's block is the temporary paralysis caused by the conviction, on an unconscious level, that what the writer is attempting is in some way fraudulent, or mistaken, or self-destructive." Not only is this blabbler hard to read but it is also predicting mean things. I hate it when I read somewhere that I will encounter a big, fat obstruction to my creativity. My creativity dies on the spot. And a chance to fix an energy drain I didn't even know about! Yahoo. I have dedicated the past two years fixing energy drains and it has completely drained my energy. So this week I am going to be very zen. I looked very hard for a funny zen cartoon but came up with crap. So I visited Natalie Dee, who came up with this:

The interesting part, for me, is to see if I actually have any readers! It's been a while since there was some artwork on this site. Or some photos! Well, I really wanted to show you guys where I am working now but their homepage is still under construction so that will have to wait. I love my new job. I am so happy there. I am working tomorrow from 7:15 AM and I am fine with it, I still look forward to go to work. I am working with great people, the kids are great. And on that note I just want to say:

Tuesday, June 17, 2003 I have been told that it is a really positive sign after being dumped, to have moved from the topic of the ex onto the topic of politics. I guess I am not doing all that bad. posted by Skotta | 5:51 PM | I have decided what I am doing tonight. Nothing. Today is Iceland's Independence day. Today's news is that Icelandic women earn only 79% of what men are earning for the same jobs. The gap has grown in the past 10 years. Time to shake up the Womens Party again. I curse the women who have cursed feminism in the past 10 years. In his speach, the Icelandic prime minister (famous for his trips to rehabs in America) told the nation that his correspondance with Bush has so far been honest and friendly and he expected Bush to visit soon. And now I will go back to doing nothing for the rest of the evening. posted by Skotta | 5:49 PM | Saturday, June 14, 2003 I am having a blog feas today. This was on my old site so most of you know them already. They are favorites of mine so I am posting them again here. posted by Skotta | 7:04 PM | Okay, this is clear: Blogger can't handle text posted from Word. I will run another text later to see if this is because I use the Icelandic keyboard. I think this sucks. It costs me a fortune in phone bills to be online while I write. Time to get a broad-band connection... I am waiting for the whole thing to become wireless. I just want my building to buy a server that is placed somewhere in the house and all of us can connect to without our apartments being crowded with wires and extention cords. Better get back to what I was doing... what was I doing? One of my friends (role model number 3) is travelling abroad tonight. I wish her a great trip and hope she gets a lot of rest. She might not. She is not always all that smart.... That's why she is my role model. You can learn a lot from people who have not always been all that smart. posted by Skotta | 5:50 PM | I just found out why I want a dog. Each puppy is worth 120.000 iskr. posted by Skotta | 5:22 PM | I am testing something. I want to know if my blog gets funny signs because they are pre-written in Word and pasted onto the page. This means I will have to write sentences with a lot of commas, like in the words won’t, can’t and shouldn’t. I don’t like those words. I like words like can and will. I don’t really believe in should or would. I have thought a lot about words lately. I have to say that I don’t believe in them anymore. Words are easy. Saying something is so easy. Doing things is difficult. I have heard so many words and I have said so many words but I have not been so good taking action and I have known a lot of people who have been the same way. Like: I am going to join a gym I am getting so much better at this stuff with the action. Not only am I better at doing the things I say I will do but am also better at shutting my mouth and not making commitments that I can’t keep. This applies when I am dealing with others. When I am talking to myself, I continue telling me that I am going to join a gym. I am otherwise having a great day. I am at the moment enjoying a break before continuing renovating my apartment. So far I have gone shopping for the stuff I needed at the builders-marked, done the dishes and started a maschine of laundry. I have done more. I woke up this morning from a really great dream. I was dating this really good looking guy who just did everything he could to try to impress me. I was liking it and having a great time. One of my favorite moments of the day was changing the name on my doorbell. That one just makes me all happy inside. I also learned a secret today. I can’t tell what it is because it’s a secret. It’s a very happy secret so I am happy inside about that too. I am also happy inside because I have very good friends and really good people in my life. I have had visitors most of the day and last night, people who are just really great people. So now the stereo is blasting great music (bought 3 CD’s this week that will be rewiewd in another blog) and I am loving my life with all the happy news it is bringing me. posted by Skotta | 5:21 PM | Tuesday, June 10, 2003 My brother's dog just got puppies. Why do I all of a sudden want a dog? Because puppies are sooo cute. I love puppies. Until they poop and piss on your floor. My bro's dog just got 5 puppies. I am assuming there will be a lot of pottie training done at their house in the next month. These particular dogs are like cats, small and nice. Apartment dogs. Love that. Want one. Damn that I am in another country, otherwise I would be giving my bro a puppy eyed look begging him to give me one. Maybe I should look into this on a local level. The thing about pets is that they don't do their things in the toilet. Dogs you even have to pick up after. Not until they grow up, but even after they grow up! Well, anyway, here are the cuties:
posted by Skotta | 10:06 PM | Monday, June 09, 2003 The Weather Pixie is in, but I am still having those technical difficulties!!!! Will receive help from a cool HTML chick this week. posted by Skotta | 9:08 PM | Sunday, June 08, 2003 Summerhouse It’s one of those long holidays the Danes celebrate. This one is called Pinse and covers the Sunday and Monday (today and tomorrow). Since they had Grundlovsdag on Thursday (being July 4th for the Yanks, and 17. júní for the Icelanders) everybody took Friday off and got a 5 day weekend out of it. Lovely. I didn’t. I worked Thursday and Friday and am working Monday too. But. I did go out of town yesterday. Actually, I left the country. This is what I love about living in Denmark. I can actually afford to travel between countries, even for a weekend. I went to Sweden where a friend of mine has a really amazing cottage. It was sooooo nice. Unfortunately it was not quite warm enough to bathe in the lake and we did not cook over an open fire because last night it rained. I am going with her again soon, and again, and again…. so there should be plenty of bathing in the lake next time. The best thing about the trip was that it was so relaxing. I slept like a log through the night after eating amazing food and laughing through the evening. It is so quiet out in the country, just the birds singing… I don’t really have to go far though to hear the birds singing. All I have to do is open my kitchen window and I can hear them from the trees in my garden. Life is just so lovely these days. Reading Men At Arms now by Terry Pratchett. It is so funny and I have been told it isn’t even his best. I am definitely on to something here… Pratchett has written at least 40 more titles that I will be checking out after I’m finished with this one. It is one of those books that makes you want to rather take the 45 minute bus ride to work, than bike over there in 20 minutes. You can’t read and bike. Fact of life. Aha! Finally, here is the thunderstorm they have been predicting for the past week. It is supposed to rain more over the next two hours than it will rain for the rest of June. They were just a half a week off… “Don’t trust the weather man,” said a friend of mine. She should know, she married three of them In her honor I will install my Weather Pixie. posted by Skotta | 9:23 PM | Wednesday, June 04, 2003 Further good news in my house... My upstairs neighbours are very young boys who have kept me up until 5 am sometimes. They are not loud, the house is very, very quiet. The people who live in my house are all young and very cool with using earplugs. So far the boys have kept me up by the computer games they play. Lately it has been quiet. Either they have rented their apartment out or their testicles have come down... Somebody up there is practicing playing the guitar. He is actually okay. It is quite nice to hear him in the evenings. posted by Skotta | 10:05 PM | Unfortunately I cannot find out what in the hell is going on with the header of my posts. I hope you enjoy those numbers, they are probably a magical code of some kind... Figure the code out and you will get a prize. Now, lets see what Robert tells me this week: "The universe is full of magical things," said British novelist Eden Phillpotts, "patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper." It's another way to express my belief that life is a conspiracy to shower us with blessings, but most of us have developed ingenious strategies for eluding those blessings. The good news, Aquarius, is that your wits have recently grown sharp enough to detect magical things that were previously invisible to you. You will soon rise up and divest yourself of one of your main methods for avoiding joy and success. Thank you Robert. That was very enlightening. I am thinking about fulfilling your prophecy by using my favorite trick this week. Instead of thinking about old boyfriends that mistreated me and turned out to be turdbrains, I will only think nice thoughts. Out with the turdbrain, in with the summer. Or as Dharma does... we just put it in a bubble and blow it away....
Then I would just like to tell you this, in the words of my friend who makes really nice artwork:

Tuesday, June 03, 2003 Oh, my fans, how I have neglected you… Spending a lovely evening at home, sunburnt and smiling. I have started my new job. What an amazing place to work! It is actually a healthy working environment!!!! Did I dare expect such a place existed? The tough kids are a joke compared to the easy kids at my old job. There is no stress. Nobody shits on the floor. Only one kid that pinches and kicks, and that is on a bad day. Which means that he is usually really happy. The rest of the kids are a dream. They are funny and charming and I am so looking forward to forcing art therapy upon them. So now I am totally happy. I have my whole place to myself (beautiful Eastern European tennant not moving in until August), and it is summer. Summer means days at the beach (hence the sunburn), brunch in my garden on weekends, eating dinner outside. I love my garden. Once I have recovered from the first week on the new job I will start working on my apartment. I have volunteers to help me fix up and paint my kitchen and hallway. The apartment is going to be soooo nice. Last but not leas I have to link you guys to this site. They are my favorite band at the moment, although they will probably not be apreciated by the people who only speak English. I saw them live for the first time last summer and I went to see them again last Friday. Having regretted not having bought their CD last year I made sure not to walk out without one this time. Okay, I'll tell you who they are... Scwanzen Sänger Knaben is a quartet. They are geniouses. They only sing rude, very descriptive, soft core porn. Texts are definetly x-rated and they are the only people on earth able to make me laugh at songs about pedofilia. They sing like angels which makes their act pure art. posted by Skotta | 9:19 PM | |
