Sunday, November 30, 2003 To my foxy friend who got us candy at the party last night, sat with me and stood up and left with me when the oh-so-young and unattractive man without brain tried to pick us up: "Of COURSE women have more opportunities than men to get laid. I mean, have you LOOKED at the guys complaining that they can't get any? They have bad haircuts, they don't bathe, and they have no concept of how to dress. They tuck shirts into pants so that we can see their beer guts hanging out over their belts. Yech! And they try the LAMEST lines on women who look like they just stepped off the fashion pages of Vogue. I mean, if all we are talking about is sex here, and raw sexual attraction, let's face it, the bulk of the male race is damned UGLY. You want to get laid? Try looking HALF as good as the woman you are drooling over." -- Tasha K. posted by Skotta | 8:46 PM | As usually, swinging from the deep to the shallow end... Meet the love of my life, his name is Marc. posted by Skotta | 1:16 PM | This blog is turning into "where did I party this weekend"... Okay, off I went last night looking absouloutly fabulous. Not kidding. I stunned myself wearing somebody elses clothes. It is obvious that I need to shop for clothes, I am wearing the wrong outfits... I didn't think I could look so thin! Or maybe I have lost more weight that I realized. I can share this one with yah, my ass is totally the hottest bootie in town. I love myself. And now from glam to life again. Many things stunning me this week. The Inuites are taking their case to Strassbourg. For those who don't know, this is about Thule, a place in Greenland that the Danes took away from the Inuites and gave to the US goverment. Anyone heard of the Thule base? In 1953, the Danes evacuated 187 families, to make space so the US could make the Thule base bigger. The Inuites lost their lands, were moved away from their homes and hunting grounds. They are asking for money now and permission to move back. The Danes ruled that they had a right to some money, insultingly little, and that was it. It is an outrage. I also read in the paper this morning about the Egyptian twins recovery, the babes that survived a 33 hour operation, seperating their heads and their brains. I have worked in a big childrens hospital where they did some amazing stuff ( I worked with liver and renal transplant patients, short gut transplant patients, heart transplant patients). That this operation worked and both babies are alive (and facing each other and throwing toys at visitors) is such a miracle. Now think of the people who, probably working in shifts, stood for hours working on these tiny little heads, taking some of their scull and putting it in their thigh (keeping the bone sterile and alive in hope of being to use it later to grow the babies sculls), trying to save the brains the best way possible to minimize the cognitive damage. Not that the kids will be normal. When two brains are stuck togeather you can't really take them apart without damaging them. But they are alive. Not everyone gets to do that after a 33 hour operation. And this is just the start of these babies lives. Let me tell you what they didn't say in the paper. They have many operations to come. One of them has already had an extra one where they put in a shunt, and they will have cosmetic surgery to repare the scull (or rather put something where the rest of us have a scull as now they have to wear helmets to protect their brains). They are going to be living in the hospital for a long time. Recovery is a hard process. They will be poaked and touched by people who are not their mother, stuck with needles, will see more of their own blood and band aids than your average kid. They have no say in it and it will make them angry and scared. They will play in the same room they eat and sleep and poop, with the exception of two hours a day when the playroom is open, the days they are not in isolation. Those days they will only see people in robes and be touched with gloves. If they get the flue, everyone around them will be wearing masks and their brother won't be allowed to see them. All their toys are sterilized on a daily basis. These kids will see trees through the window and they will not feel the breeze. They will not recognize the smell of grass or earth or pollution. They will not recognise the sound a car makes. But they will tell you proudly they know how to buzz the nurse when they can't help themselves because the IV pole got stuck by the bed. Usually, after spending so much of your first year in the hospital, if you are well enough and can be treated at home, you get to leave. You still have to come back to that stuff regularly, once a week to begin with, then once a month. Kids are amazing, they adapt. Adults are dum. They think that kids adapt better because they are kids. Yeah, they have a lot to look forward to. I'm not saying that these will be unhappy kids, but they will be brave kids. Being brave is not a choice, it is always an ultimatum. More on life. oh, no, it is Sunday, lets not stay serious all day. This is more than plenty. I am working on my r&r and so far so good. I decided to go on a favorite retreat... I am staying at a friends house and have been here all weekend. That means, I am spending my time in the most beautiful apartment in Copenhagen, solely with the blackest black kitty in the world. I love getting to stay here, my friend is out for the day so I am just hanging out watching TV, blogging, drinking lattes and reading the weekend papers. And TV land is my favourit country, if anyone didn't know. I love it so much there that I must visit seldomly or I end up with migraines. No TV in my house or my life disappears. I am a junkie, I know... it is not going untreated, hehehe. This weekend I therefor watched more TV than I have done in months. And want to know what was my favorite this weekend? Apart from MTV of course... (not really deep enough for the Discovery Channel, hehehe). SOAP
I would love to have the whole serie, all episodes. A classic. Hullboy, have you seen this? And now I will go back to my croissant and latte. posted by Skotta | 11:59 AM | Saturday, November 29, 2003 Okay, okay..! Man, it is hard to have a life and keep up with blogging! I had planned on lots of r&r this weekend as I partied quite hard the past two. Not working out. Today they opened a new culture house, a Nordic house kinda, with Greenland, The Faroe Islands and Iceland. The embassies are there and some great exhibition spaces. The house is right across from Luftkastellet (The Air Kastle) which is a very posh place to party... beach sand outside the place which is kinda huge warehouse. Very posh indeed. I have been at the culture house all day seeing some great exhibits and concerts! Okay, to make a long story short, although I had not planned on it I am going to this party there tonight with all the artists and cool people who exhibited and had performances at the opening today. Funny enough, some of them are my old classmates from art school who are making it big in the big big world out there. Proud of them!!! As I had not planned on this I am now using the computer to excape from the "oh, my god, what to wear!" crisis. I am not at home so I had to borrow some stuff... remember girls, when we used to be able to swap clothes? Can't do that anymore. How thirty of me. Anyway, I seem to be pulling it off so now I better get a face on. posted by Skotta | 7:50 PM | Thursday, November 27, 2003 c a n ' t b l o g . . . n o w . . . a m t o o s t u f f e d . . .
Happy Thanksgiving! posted by Skotta | 10:40 PM | Wednesday, November 26, 2003 Horrorscope for the week of November 27th: You'll be offered chances to dramatically expedite your maturation. If you've been emotionally stunted or deprived of learning adventures in any way, now's the time to fix that. Are you kidding me? hmm... anyone missed out on my "learning adventures" this year...? posted by Skotta | 7:39 PM | Monday, November 24, 2003 I wish I could take credit for this one but I have to admit I got it from my friend Gazelle: What did the snail say when rode on the turtles back? "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee." posted by Skotta | 10:57 PM | Sunday, November 23, 2003 Mmmmm... Sunday morning. Went to the movies last night and saw Love Actually. It's one of those movies that you want to see again. Right after it finishes! I really liked it and it was funny to feel how everyone in the theater had a warm feeling inside (those who weren't kissing) when we wen't out. My date and I were all smiles and had to hug. The movie defineltly lives up to being the Ultimate Romantic Comedy. And... I don't care what my Queenshagsalot thinks about this one but by me and my date he is nominated "the most beautiful man ever seen in a movie". Meet Rodrigo Santoro. I think that is it, Brazilian boyfriend it is. Sorry guys at Italian pizzeria, even though you made my day this morning when I got myself a panino sandwich and my favorite mango juice, and stocked up on home made stracciatella icecream. We shook that off though and walked all chill down the street where hookers are. Istegade, where they used to work, is now so posh that the hookers moved. This is what happens when young artsy people move in and take over a neighbourhood. Apartment prizes are up on the Vest Bridge. This is partly because even the broke artsy Danes still don't want to live with the foreigners... unless they are hip and cool and artsy foreigners. Price is still lower here on the North Bride where I live with the muslims and the beer soaked white trash Danes live on the benches in my hood. It's at least not the muslims who are stocking up on beer at the supermarked or walking around urine soaked with missing teeth. I love my hood. I love the multi-culturalism and I notice the lack of it when I visit other neighbourhoods. I am beginning to recognize the different ways of draping the vails, depending on which muslim religion you follow. The somali women are the only ones totally covered, though some others wear dresses and long coats. Most of the younger women follow fashions rules and wear jeans or pants, or longer skirts, wearing a vail that those who know will see is Gucci or another label. The more you cover of your forhead the more "religious" you are. It is lovely to be able to see the difference, when I moved here they all looked the same. I am not expressing my opinion on the vail, it is much discussed now as women keep getting fired for wearing it. If they get a job to begin with.... those who are allowed to work. The problem here has not been that muslim women are not allowed to work (by their husbands) but that they have not gotten jobs. I wish I still had that interwiew with the 4 muslim sisters living here in Copenhagen, who are 4 doctors the Danish hospitals were not hireing in spite of the Danish health care system needing doctors so badly they recrutted them from Poland. Looking for a photo of a muslim woman I stumbled upon this page. It's a North-American magazine for the woman who doesn't apologize for being a woman, and doesn't apologize for being a muslim.
My, oh, my, how did I get there? I was just going to write a little bit about the fact that 5 more Pakistanis were released from Guatanamo. That means 21 Pakistanis out and 37 still held illegally by the US at Kuba. Here's to the Pakistani goverment for fighting for human rights. I am horrified that Tony Blair didn't work on getting the Brits out of Guatanamo, during Bush's visit, to get them a fair trial in a neutral country. There is one Dane at Guatanamo. The Danes don't care and are still kissing Bush's arse, while the Sweeds are figting to get their prisoners. Shame on the world, but again, hurray for Pakistan. posted by Skotta | 1:37 PM | Saturday, November 22, 2003 Here's to all the Buffy fans who keep posting those "which Buffy character are you?" tests and then theme discussing them in their guestbooks: This didn't really surprise me ![]() Take the What animal best portrays your sexual appetite?? This bugs me tremendously. I have spent the evening reading one of the most inspireing blogs I visit. Unfortunately I cannot share this blog with you as Punknurse is Icelandic. Madonna is loosing it. Song with Britney and song called American Dream proove me true. Madonna is in a state of true despair. Saw a photo of M Jackson today. I looked at it for a long time until I got scared. It totally freaked me out. Enough of the pop-news. Today was an unusual day. Wanna know what was unusual about it? I woke up irritated. That allmost never happens! When things like this happen I realize how wonderful it is to be a person who allmost never wakes up irritated. I tried to shake it off but couldn't. Kept asking myself what the hell was up but couldn't place it. Wen't to the post office on the way to work only to find out that the letter I was picking up was an advertisement. I allmost called the company to let them know I would never buy anything from a company who had me go to the post office to pick up their ads. I can't be irritated for a long time, I just can't be bothered, so it had worn off by the time I got to work. Turned out that most of us had that kind of a morning so we just decided it was the moon. I work with amazing people. Took the kids horseback riding today and taught my first English lesson afterwards. Yip, I am trying to hail in extra cash and this is one of my attempts. I am giving a kid private lessons in English. She is actually okay but just scared shitless when it comes to speaking. Actually, she is terrified expressing herself in her own language and I have a feeling that is why her mother didn't want her to get English lessons from a teacher but contaced a therapist. oh, and to Mc: thanks for the sms. I love that you so faithfully follow this page. posted by Skotta | 2:03 AM | Thursday, November 20, 2003 Oh, and of course, hail Massachussetts for being the first state in the US to move into the 20th century (although they didn't really make the century, better late than never) and legally accept gay marriages. posted by Skotta | 11:16 PM | World news Here's to 200.000 Brits who tramped on a statue of Bush today at Trafalgar Square! I got the news Wednesday and called the parents right away. Talked to the baby on the phone. Oh, my God! Awesome. Am definetly having kids. Any volunteers? Friday I went to the movies and saw the Matrix. As much as I loved the first Matrix I have to say that I should have learned my lesson after the second one. The script is a bit too Biblical for my taste. Hey, lets make John the Babtist a black woman and call Jesus Neo! Got a call after the movies from my ex's sister. Love her. She kicks ass and I have always admired her. She was in town for the weekend so I met up with them at Moose and then on to the Copenhagen Jazzhouse. Not my first time there, I have been invited to concerts there, back stage eating fruits and all, but not been there to party during "night clubbing hours". I have found my spot, this is where I will be going out from now on. Good DJ (for dancing) and really, really good looking men. I am talking tall and sexy here. Men men. We were a total Charlies Angels trio so there was a lot of action going on. Not often that I have men kneeling before me on the dancefloor. Decided I am going for a tall boyfriend as they say that with each centimeter the pay goes up 1000 dkr a month. So my 161,05 cm are looking for someone around 2 meters. Saturday I went to IKEA with my girls. From now on my tennant and Queen Shagsalot will be titled my girls. We had a great time shopping at IKEA. Found 10 bars of Snickers for 32 dkr. Got inspired and decided that renting a movie would be in order. At Blockbuster we found another good offer, 5 DVD's for 75 dkr. Feeling that as I am older I need to educate them so Flashdance and Footloose were watched last night. Oh, the good old days of Jazz Ballet... painted arms and legs, ripped brown bags and Duran Duran's Wild Boys... I am definetly getting my hands on some Giorgio Moroder. Had forgotten how great the music was in Flashdance. He is also the successful producer of 1970's disco acts like: Donna Summer ("I feel love") Roberta Kelly ("Troublemaker") Munich Machine ("Get on the funk train") Blondie ("Call me")
Today I hopped over to Malmo, Sweeden, for brunch and window shopping. Looked at lots of baby stuff as I am bringing home some X-mas presents in mineature size. There will be two brand new girls to meet. No laundry done this weekend. Didn't do any of all the other stuff I needed to do. Who gives a shit? As you can read, I have been in teen land all weekend. And now I am going to put my baby girl, who has the most beautiful name in the world, on my desktop. posted by Skotta | 7:27 PM | Tuesday, November 11, 2003
I hate stealing this guy's artwork but as I still haven't gotten my own on the internet he is still getting the free ad on my page. And deep respect for his comics. In fact, I am adding him as a link so you can laugh at his jokes on his own website. Now, where was I? Oh, yeah, stolen artwork. Not that mine has ever been stolen. Not a long time ago I was asked, not for the first time, and probably not for the last, why I am not exhibiting my work. I do art, I am an artist, this is not my full time job, nor is it my hobby. I am also many other things, being an artist doesn't consume my existance, nor does my day job, nor does any other aspect of my life. Well, for a long time I thought I didn't exhibit because of my low self-esteem. Not. There is nothing wrong with my self-esteem. Plus, I don't think that exhibiting has anything to do with self-esteem. I exhibited a lot when I had no self-esteem at all. Neither do I think that there is a lack of exhibitionism in me. Ask the people I work with, and they'll tell you I show off all the time. I am good at what I do and don't hesitate letting the world share my greatness. I wondered therefor, last time I was asked why I don't exhibit, if it was because of the fact that I was told by my teachers that art was life and life was art. Everything I do is art, if I clean the toilet, it's a performance, crossing the street is an event. Art does not become less art because it only lasts a moment or because it is not documented. When the painters were taken to the museums, I was taken on a field trip to IKEA, the mekka of mass production, to see art as a multiple. Why do a lithograph when you can photocopy? I love the idea of things happening that we do not know of. I did a lot of performance art and I did exhibits with a magic marker on the walls, and had to paint over them many layers so the next artist would have clean walls to exhibit on. I did not document this, I have no proof of these exhibits nor the process of painting over my works. Many of my performances live only in the memory of those who attended. I have very few of my sculptures and not that much documentation of my installations. That doesn't make my work less art. Art doesn't need to be seen. It just needs to be. So, after all of this, it totally blew my mind getting a visitor that showed me a permanent exhibition of my work on his calf. Oh, yeah, my work is tattooed on someone who will take it to his grave. Awesome. posted by Skotta | 9:45 PM | Sunday, November 09, 2003 Sunday again. Not feeling very creative. Last night was video night, partly because I worked Saturday and had no energy to go out. It seems that every time I diss a site or something else, that thing seems to pull through for me. This time it is Friendster. I have written silly things about Friendster.com, like it being a site for internet junkies to prove to other internet junkies that they have a life. Well, this weekend I got a message on Friendster from a guy who invited me to a party this weekend. Unfortunately I read the message a bit late and had already made a commitment to the TV. But I did message the guy back telling him to let me know if something similar would be happening again because the party sounded interesting (some kind of an art opening/ happening thing). So now I am beginning to see the use of Friendster. Last night I saw a move called Sliding Doors and it was kind of interesting. I liked the concept behind the script which runs two paralell stories of a woman who in one of the stories misses her train, whereas in the other storie she catches the train. It once was suggested to me that I am not the center of the universe. Quoting my friend B Utd "... this is good as it significantly reduces my responsibilities". For me, this was a new concept as before I had been introduced to the idea that I indeed was the center of the universe (aka at the time; the art world), and wherever I went, there I would be, in the center of the universe. I loved believing I was the center of the universe although it only got me so far. Lets now imagine, that I am not. That would mean that if I missed the bus, it had nothing to do with me. It might be because there was someone at the next bus stop who needed to get somewhere on time so the bus wasn't supposed to wait for me. Get it?
Hence, no point in cursing the day I missed the bus as it was not fate's evil trick on me. posted by Skotta | 9:26 PM | Thursday, November 06, 2003 I sometimes stumble upon good blogs that I save into my Favorites. There was this kid, Gabriel, who wrote of his training and his dreams to do well as an athlete. This is a totally charming blog, not because I am interesting in the wheights he was lifting or how far he ran that week, but because he kept posting little things to pep himself up. I liked that about this teen who now hasn't written since August 16th. I hope he pops up again. His blog is inspireing. I also wonder if anybody knew he was blogging or if his writings are now archived on the web for history to find them. I'm not saying he is dead or hurt. Maybe he just got his girlfriend back and has no time to write. That he hasn't written kind of gives us a chance to compose the rest of a story of a teen who dreamt big. I have followed blogs that weren't updated in months before, he might write again. Dream until your dreams come true. posted by Skotta | 7:29 PM | Tuesday, November 04, 2003 My friends are special people. One of them has two cats. She adopted them, not so long ago. I can't wait to meet them. For the past few months I have been getting updates on their toilet training. Now, has anyone seen Bruce Almighty? Remember the part where the dog is on the toilet reading the paper? Well, her cats are toilet trained in the same way. They are not reading the paper yet but I am starting to believe that she is Almighy too! For those of you who are interested in toilet training cats here is the website she used when getting hers to go to the loo. Check this out. Karawynn, who inspired the toilet training, is a writer and a web designer. I really like her page where she, among other things, tells that she is poly and proud. For those of you who do not know, Poly is not the diagnosis Bi-polar but stands for Polyamorous. Don't be afraid to check this website out. It is full of life and quality stuff. posted by Skotta | 10:23 PM | Monday, November 03, 2003 Okay, I have about 10 minutes and then I have to call Budapest. Have had an eventful weekend. Woke up unbelievably early Saturday and biked over to a friends house and helped her move. Carried her furniture up three flights of stairs. For a person who had a spot on her brain a year ago, I am in fantastic shape. Thank you amazing bike. Brunch at a really nice cafe that I can't remember what is called but am going to visit again. Went to another friends house who was on the go saving her cat, her apartment, and herself from her daughter's Halloween party. Daughter thought mom was going to be out of town and spread flyers at school, inviting everybody to bring a friend for strip poker and drinking games. Helped the mom find a nice hotel in town. Moved furniture worth a year in an American college. Had a discussion wheather or not priceless paintings should be removed from the walls. Jumped into a bright red micro skirt and red boots. Looked hot, felt heavenly. Out to dinner in Nyhavn (very fancy). Felt a migraine coming on, swallowed a Relpax. Hooked up with very cool people at Oliver. Off we went to a Gaytrix party where I danced like mad and drooled over sexy gay men. Got a very sexy smile from the cutest chick in the house. Got out, dropped by MCD and got a comment regarding X-mas. Hetero Danes have no taste. Apart from the crew that whistled a whole symphony as I walked down the street with my ass allmost showing. Went to Pan and danced until 5:30 AM. In bed smiling 6:06 AM. Thank you Relpax. Sunday Woke up early and cleaned the apartment. Very shiny apartment. Knowing that you are having guests over is a great motivator for cleaning house. Got a huge and heavy package from my mom, full of food. Love my mom. Out for Indian food in the Latino Quarter. Ordered off the menu for all of us as I seem to have become an expert in Indian food. Funny how cosmopolitan one gets after living in NY. Coffee at Bankerat. Showed my guests my favorite parts of Copenhagen in the dark. Tea at my place. Guests left 1 AM. In bed smiling again. And now I am calling Budapest. posted by Skotta | 9:22 PM | |
