Friday, June 24, 2005 My American Brother I am so proud of my brother. He just got his American citizenship. ![]() As and Icelander, after living abroad for many years, you loose your right to vote (in Iceland). When my brother lost his right to vote he applied for citizenship in America, his home country, where he has now lived for over 20 years. The right to vote is one of the most important ones to an Icelander. We come from a country where 96% of the nation utilizes their right to have a say in how their country is run. That basically means that everybody that isn't bed-ridden votes. Not having the right to vote vould get me enraged. My brother can now be a part of the biggest democracy in the world and take part in decisions like wether America should start more wars, and finally have a say in educational politics of the country where he raised his kids. To me, this is a huge responsibility and I feel he is very brave. I can't help imagining that he was moved under the cerimony where he pledged his allegance and wonder if he felt funny inside afterwards. I don't know, I didn't ask. He did tell me that the Icelanders now could just kiss his American ass ... More cool stuff happening. My sister is coming over with her boy Frosti. It is hot in Denmark. I will now go and buy soil so I can plant my little tomato seedling and my sunflowers. posted by Skotta | 1:13 PM | Sunday, June 19, 2005 I am stuffed. Barbeque. I had the most amazing meal ever in the little back garden in front of our house. No, it's true, we have a back in front of our house. You see, we live in the back garden. With a back garden in front of our house and a back garden behind our house. I know, it's complicated. AB was the official grill master and did brilliantly. Our neighbours came out and smoked water pipe. This is very fashionable here in Copenhagen. You smoke water pipe with a fruit blend. I don't get it and it looks silly to me. But then again, so many things look silly to me. Like ... ![]() ... the umbrella hat. Oh, well. Day count officially started until my sister and her son arrive. We are going to be three 10 year old tourists in Copenhagen. That means Tivoli, Bakken, The Zoo, Experimentarium, Louis Toussoud's wax museum, Ripley's believe it or not museum, Toy's-R-Us, Mc Donalds, etc. And hopefully my sister will get a glimps of AB's mother... Time for the families to meet. posted by Skotta | 10:10 PM | Friday, June 17, 2005 OMG I GOT IT! I GOT IT!!! She's prego!

Today is the 17th of June. In my language we say Gledilega thjodhatid. Or Hae ho jibby jey og jibby jey thad er kominn sautjandi juni! Cool yeah? Today my one of my homegirls put up her hat. This is what it looks like ![]() It is not a perfect match but it is close. This hat enables her to apply for university. It is a huge day for a champion of a woman. Another feat is the Queen's ... the little one just scored a feature article after only two days at the Independent. Or in her own words: GGAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! impressed editor has just commisioned me to write my first FEEEEEEAAATUUUURRRRREEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! 1,200 fricking words!!!!!!! YEEEES!!! HUUURAHHHHH!! I'M COMING UP! COMIN' ! UP!!!! IM COMING! I have moved from small side bar 150 words to 1,200 in 2 days!!!!!!!!!!!I HAVE TO CALLL...... EVERYBODY! I don't think the one with the hat has expressed her joy outloud in a similar manner but I know her heart and it is jumping for joy. I am so darned proud today. I am surrounded by fantastic women. I will now honor them by eating dried fish with butter. posted by Skotta | 7:02 PM | My man is home. Asleep. Friday eve and I am too awake to go to bed at 6 pm. Tomorrow he is going fishing and has promised me a big fish to throw on the grill Sunday. Yip. Hmmm. Is there anything to eat in the fridge? Some Icelandic stuff maybe? How about some dried fish? A second later I am munching on the cherry flavored Mentos and the green apple flavored Mentos I brought back from the Riviera. The candy isn't really doing it for me and I realize I am hungry. Starving. Hmmm. I'll attend to that later. First blog. What to blog about? Long time since a quiz. Quizilla has turned into a site for dirty stories where Draco Malfoy is the main character. What is this world coming to? Better check the news. Tom Cruise has proposed to Katie Holmes. In the Eiffel Tower. How original. What is this about proposing in a giant phallic tower? Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building. Cruise and Holmes went public in April. This year. And she is already embracing Scientology. I wonder if it was news if she converted to Islam after 3 months? Now that we mention Islam, more horror stories from Guatanamo ... no, I won't go there. They talk about closing the base. I can't see how that will change things. What are they going to do with the children they have in there? Keep them until they are old enough to be charged with something? Imagine going in there in the turbulent years of your teens and coming out as a grown up? Anyone think these kids have a chance of surviving in society again? Now I will go and find a photo of my flag. posted by Skotta | 6:43 PM | Thursday, June 16, 2005 I just cleaned my apartment. Now why? might you ask. Because I woke up this morning looking forward to my sister coming to visit tomorrow. Did my long day at work ... came home and cleaned the apartment. It now sparkles. We are talking heavy chemicals to clean the chalck off the sink and shower, and marble cleaner for the bathroom. Not shiny - sparkling. Called the sis to check out when she is arriving tomorrow. Realized as soon as I heard her say "What?" that she is coming Friday week. I am now sitting in my very shiny apartment and trying to figure out how not to breathe in this apartment for a week. Because I sure as hell ain't cleaning it again next Thursday. AB is now in Arhus with the young and hip, at a release party for this video he made for these young rapster guys. He insisted on being young and hip himself. I had to agree with him, after all, he is with me. He bought me Flash for Dummies. I remember being sat in front of a computer and told I was allowed to do anything but Erase Disk. That is how I learned the computer, by pushing all the buttons to find out what happens. I have never learned anything technical from a book. I don't ever read manuals. Flash for Dummies was a good idea until I saw it.I was terrified of the book. It seemed huge. It is huge. Even bigger is Teach Yourself Flash in 24 Hours. The books had been there for a while and I had not touched them when AB and I had a talk. I tried to explain. Could we not just buy the program? (Even though I had decided that I had already lost to it, a program that demanded such explanations was bound to be too difficult for me). There was no mercy. Could you at least read the intro? AB asked. I have now read the intro. I am pretty sure this Flash thing won't be a biggy. And now I want my price. Have both read intro and cleaned apartment, where is my prize?

Friday, June 10, 2005 Learn all about Obi Wan Canoli, Cuc Skywalker, Dart Tato, Princess Lettuce and Cubroccoli here. posted by Skotta | 11:42 PM | Long awaited. Not disappointed, no not at all. I loved this movie and am still high from it. Everybody now go see Kung Fu Hustle. I'll come with you. I can totally see it again. posted by Skotta | 11:14 PM | A bit special. Spamusment. I am off to see Kung Fu Hustle. Had made up my mind to see it tonight. My date seems to have forgotten ... or exhausted himself in the dramatic episode of winning the "Victim of the Year Award". Seconds up were the Holocaust victims and the survivors of the Tsunami. No worries. I got another date. posted by Skotta | 7:07 PM | Thursday, June 09, 2005 Principessa asked about the bowls. Here is the website. My friend saw them on Oprah. Us Icelandic women don't like Oprah because she made a terribly misleading show on how terrible floosies we are supposed to be. Long story. So although I am boycutting Oprah (not that I ever was a client but if any of you do, STOP WATCHING OPRAH NOW!) ... my friend got the bowls to help her measure her food when she got diabetes while pregnant. She swears by them and they are beautiful. Fifty bucks plus shipping. posted by Skotta | 4:44 PM | Monday, June 06, 2005 Somebody got me checking out wallpaper. And then what? ... the Oracle asked ... Well where was I? Okay, I was in Cannes. Party's on!!! And on and on and on... Not that I witnessed anything but the "aftermath" .. thus being drunken people stumbling up into my apartment in a drunken frenze "the day after" ... or the 4th or 5th drinking day in a row. Lets just say I have no problem telling people to go and sleep it off. Lets also say that more than one and more than two of AB's colleuges have apologized to me after reaching Denmark (and detoxicating) again. It was all good though. I am just over the part of my life where I say: "no don't worry, you weren't that drunk, it wasn't that bad". I have no problem just letting people feel bad when they feel bad. So there was a rape attempt, there were colleuges fighting and fist fighting, there was crying, and hopefully a lot of laughter too. And I missed the whole thing. I just heard about it afterwards. A nice change from before ... For the Icelanders to relate; it was a bit like a Verslunarmannahelgi in Thorsmork when you are 16. But as I said, this had nothing to do with me. I was up on my balcony having breakfast. I have to tell you about the one cultural activity (apart from the films world premiere) we did. We visited Chapelle du Rosarie in Vence. This is one of the most beautiful little chapels in the world. It is decorated by Henri Matisse. He described it as being the work his whole carriere prepared him for. It is truly a beautifully simple and a very peaceful and light place to visit. ![]() On the way there we had tea in this tiny little mideval town in the hills. It is one of those that look like a very unreal idle postcard. I can't remember it's name but it had a kind of a Tourette in it. Well, I guess you want to know about the big day? There came the day of The Film. AB felt I had to get my hair done so I went out on the street and found a salon. They were very nice to me. A young gay man gave me three books with pics of women with their hair up in buns. I picked a do and showed him the picture. Three tons of spray and a lot of pins later I looked like someone who was going to win the world competition of ball room dancing. ![]() (Beth Knoll, 1991 United States National Champion in the Professional Open Standard Division) Me and Frenchy were happy about it. I felt a bit 50's and a bit 50 but to hell with it. I had bigger things to worry about. Like the thunderstorm outside. This hairdo turned out to be made of the stuff that survives wares. The don't play with that shit at the French Riviera. Women have hair, and only in Rome and at the formally gay bar 22 at Laugarvegur have I seen so many transvestite hairdos as in the Cannes. I love it. While I was having my hair done AB was out in the thunderstorm trying to get his wannabe jeep of a sportscar of the top of a threshold. It took two extra guys and the local baker to help AB lift the car off. I will post a picture later if AB lets me. While battling with this, AB was getting sms messages from me if he wouldn't be so sweet to drop by the salon with a bag so my hair wouldn't get wet. All went well. AB got his tickets to Sin City and then came home to slip on his tux before racing off again. He was to be at a reception at four. I had nothing but fun and games. I headed off with the gang, the rain had stopped and it was a beautiful day. I had a classic little black wrap-around dress on. Old faithful. Have now used it at two important movie functions so it is in the "maybe Christmas but mostly work dress" bin. I had little black pin up sandals on and therefor grabbed an arm wearing Armani to hang on to on my way up the red carpet. AB's trainee. He was bursting, he was so proud taking the boss's lady to the movies. Our little walk was broadcasted on at least 3 giant screens over the streets of Cannes and on the screen inside the movie theater. Us nobodies were send in first and the famous came in later. I got the pleasure to see Handsom Man AB walk up the red carpet and as he was placed in the seat behind the instructor I was able to adore him plenty until the film started. The movie is really good. I loved it. I will say no more on the topic. Apart from how proud I was when my man's name rolled up the screen in the end. He and his team kick ass. After a bunch of picture taking on the street after the movie (we got some great black and white's of the VFX Rat Pack) we went to the party. Very nice party with the cool and famous. I was cool and they were famous. No gossip I said but will tell that I helped a movie star nick a bottle of white from behind the bar. Same star stood by the window for the rest of the evening and I couldn't help but stare ... at the people that gathered outside to take pictures of him. It is a funny world and by God I wouldn't want to be famous. Oh, and I saw Beyonce at the airport in Nice, wearing a huge hat and sunglasses, guarded from paparazzi by the largest men I have seen. From afar. Just like I have seen plenty of famous people from afar while living in New York. I also thought "poor her" when I saw the episode. I don't know if the pity is deserved. Actually, pity is never needed. Party was good and we danced until dark. The Rat Pack drank free champange until the endless well ran out, and extramarital sex was had. Me and AB romantically drowe through the night air, in the sea breeze, looking great and feeling tired. It is very fancy driving in a convertible looking dazzling with a man who looks handsom in a smoking. The last thing I will tell you from Cannes that the oyster feast had it's highlight at Restaurant chez Astoux. Check out their website. The fresh lobster was amazing and according to AB so were the oysters. ![]() The day after Astoux we packed and tanked up with gas, went to the supermarked to buy coffee for the chicks at home, and drove off. First stop Verona. I want to go there again. I also realized that if we had driven 1 1/2 hour more that day we could have visited Venice. I am aparently not done with Italy yet. We got a really beautiful room in Verona in a 3 star hotel that offered a room with a bathtub. The people working in the reception were really sweet but insisted on keeping our passports until we checked out. In stead we got an amazing room where we cought the rest of the Eurovision Song Contest after eating one of the best meals I have ever eaten. It turned out that although the bathtub was nice it only offered cold water and warm water - no mixing the temperature. We slept so well that we missed breakfast. It made me sad because I love Italian breakfast buffets. We were not sad for long. You can't really be sad in a sports car. Just ask AB. He did get pissed off though after falling and hitting his leg at the carwash. And he did get a bit sad when he realized that his antenna got left behind in Verona. I suggested driving back for it ... but then we were somewhere in the Italian alps already so we decided to just hit Tyrol. I learned that there is something called the Brenner Pass where you cross the border over to Austria. I can't figure out if I like Austria. Everything was so perfect. AB asked me if I thought they came out every night to trim the bushes and the grass. I wouldn't say the neatness scared us ... there is just some insanity in the perfectness of it all. We got a good night's sleep in cracking clean sheets, after eating schnitzel, in a decorated house in some highway town in Tyrol. AB knows what it's called, I can't remember. Next stop Kassel. This is where it was rainy and overcast so powernaps had to be taken on the way. We stayed at a Movenpick hotel in Kassel. 4 stars. Bathtub. Room service. We ordered so much food that the waiter thought we were 4 people. Slept like logs on our last night as rock and roll stars. The night after we had dinner in Odense. It was really weird to be in a place where everybody spoke Danish. Well, for Peter. Danish is still a foreign language to me. I love my bed. I love it so much that I didn't leave it for days after coming back home. Finally, I will give you this article in the honor of my road trip. In connection with that, I have to tell you that in front of this factory in Switzerland is the largest Wunderbaum I have ever seen. Here is the only photo I regretted not taking on my road trip: It would have been summer in mine. posted by Skotta | 12:57 PM | |
