Saturday, May 29, 2004 Boys will be boys Take care of your back... says my boyfriend and turns over to the other side. Laptop on bed, the girl needs to blog. Where to start? Metallica is touring the world. Their first concert was in Parken (their last will be in Reykjavik!). And we went. And we survived. First band on stage was Slipknot. Welcome to Hell and have a nice day. They were not half as awesome as Slow Roosevelt, the Texan band I saw at the C-Note a some 4 years ago. Same type of metal, maybe a little bit more punk than Slipknot. Metallica was awesome. They played forever. They actually didn't play that much from their new album but took my favorites anyway. If I can say that I have favorites... What I felt was the most awesome of the whole thing, was the energy of the males. I say the males because there were 97% males in the audience. There was hardly a woman in sight. That got me the attention of some very nice Danish hillbillies who thought I was totally cute. With my boyfriend at my back, these guys formed a fort around me so I was totally safe in the croud. The energy man! There were men screaming along with the songs, they knew all the lyrics, and with glee in they're eyes, put new meaning to the word "luftguitar". Obey Your Master... For further information, contact St. Anger.
I can't remember if I wrote a rewiew on the documentary about Metallica. I saw the film at the Night Film Festival where it got voted Best Film by the audience. The film gave me a lot of laughs, and I thought Metallica were a bunch of pussies. Which they are. I thought this had to be the beginning of the end. How would all these young angry males respond to their sex, drugs and rock and roll heroes appearing on screen as co-dependent little drama queens? I kind of understand now how they can get away with that shit. Thei kicked ass. They played until there was not a breath in our bodies. I came home totally exhausted, body aching all over. At one point during the concert I stopped to listen to the 40.000 males, with the adrenalin and testosteron charging the air. They use this wonderful energy to create wars. I wonder if it could be used to stop one? The men weren't angry, they were happy. It is the biggest sample of negative energy turned positive I have ever witnessed. I would love to take this croud to the White House. But back to the documentary. I still think they are a bunch of drama queens. And funny enough, I had this strong need to check out an old favorite: Spinal Tap.
Blockbuster provided the movie and off we went on another adventure of sex, drugs, rock and roll, and drama queens. It is amazing how much the two movies have in common.. down to the detail of rodies and cabbies misspelling the band name. Enough of the metal. And now to last night. Again, with the boys, this time I went sailing. Loved it. I have a few minor injuries after a sharp turn which threw me off my seat, otherwise I had a great time. Funny enough, one of the main goals of the trip was getting a good pizza, some serious portion of soft-ice. We had to sail around to find the right soft ice. We hit two different towns for the right kind. That was after long discussions on where to eat, parking the boat at two restaurants to check the menu. You see, it had to be mixed ice-cream, vanilla and strawberry. Cave man what? posted by Skotta | 10:46 AM | Friday, May 21, 2004 For those of you that can handle the disgust, here is today's Washington Post. Please note that this is disturbing material and try to keep yourself from reading it if there is any chance of it crossing your boundaries. I have decided to try to refrain from writing about this. I will though say that I am enraged about the situation in Afganistan, Iraq, and Israel. There has always been war and there has always been torture. There have always been Bushes, and Cheneys, and Rumsfelds, and Condolezzas. I don't know why this is hitting me so hard now. Maybe because it is done in the name of the people I love. I don't think anyone I know in the US approves of how the US is treating prisoners of war (thousands of Talebans in Afganistan were closed in containers where they suffered horrible death, they suffocated due to thirst, and lack of space and air. How's that for an exicution?). I know that my girlfriend in Texas, who has a brother in the army, would not want him to be treated this way if he was captured in Irak. In an article I read by Egill Helgason, he wrote that the Americans using Abu Ghraib prison after Saddam, equaled to the Allies opening Dachau back to business after the Second World War. It always amazes me that this country is called The Land of The Free, when there is no democraty there. I am grateful for the fact that my future kids will be citizens of a country where there is no army. Iceland is a banana republic, no threat to any other part of the world, and with no say in world politics (although we keep barking like a little poodle). Both Iceland and Denmark support the war in Irak, and I am not proud of that. There is though a slight chance for the Danes not voting for Anders Fogh Rasmussen, and the Icelanders not for David Oddsson. There is a bigger chance for Bush staying on. I love that not everyone is taking this silently. Here is a rewiew of the movie that made one American PR want to burn his passport: Fahrenheit 9/11. posted by Skotta | 11:21 PM | Mmm.. what a great day. Believe it or not, I spent the whole day flirting with a young male. He is 4 months old and one of the most beautiful babies I have ever seen. We went shopping togeather. I hooked up with a dear friend from high school. She happenes to have hooked up with my favorite class mate from art school. We were all a bit wilder then... I have many stories. I don't hang out with them as often as I'd like to. They are so laid back and sane. Rare to find that atmosphere these days. Today, me and her and the baby spent at the mall, shopping for clothes and gossipping over coffee. I got the pleasure of watching the babe while she tried on some clothes. I love him! I miss the kids back home. posted by Skotta | 10:07 PM | My man is in NY. It feels really weird. NY is my turf. I'm supposed to be there giving him the tour and having him meet my people there. He has said we'll have to go there together. I love the idea. I am sure my friends, especially those currently expecting a boy, are thrilled to hear that. Well, chatting with him there, getting the sms messages from Manhattan, is stirring up some things in me. It is exactly a year this month, since I went there. And left there. Man, what a turbulent time it was. And how easy and happy my life is now. I can hardly believe it. I have no problems today. No drama. I have thought so much about the "letting go" bit. It is clear to me how letting go of so many years of misery, letting go of negative energy, results in such amazing freedom. It is like a force of nature, once I let go of the energy, all this good stuff came to me, like a refreshing waterfall or strong, warming wind. Bring on the violins.... God, I make myself puke sometimes. Well, I am glad that bullshit is over. I spent eight years on this energy and swore that I wouldn't give it the ninth. That prooved to work, I have had an amazing year. It was surprisingly easy, (well, not maybe that easy - it is hard work to erase ones brain of negative thinking) and it didn't take long until I moved on with speed. I am actually pretty darned proud of me. I wish I was in Manhattan, at this small French bistro in Soho, where my man is having dinner right now. Blue Ribbon Sushi, the place I reccommended, had a two hour waiting list... Well, to be honest, I wish I was in Purchase. Or with John C and Bobby in Brooklyn. And now to some movie rewiews. This is what I watched this evening:
And then Denmark's sexiest actor Nikolaj Lie Kaas in Reconstruction.
It was a feast for the eye to watch my two favorite actors in leading roles ... for hours. Dirty minded me would have liked to see more skin, although McGregor kinda didn't leave much left for the imagination in Velvet Goldmine... there is never enough of a good thing. Hmmm... the movies themselves... Well, them men looked fab, the women looked stunning, the acting was good, the sets were cool. Both movies sport a great script, although Reconstruction is more artsy, hence complicated. This is what you get when you mix Sweadish and Danish, you get social-realism mixed with love/extensialistic philosophy. Results: you have one of those painful, part love story, part memory loss/sci fi, movies with an incomprihencible ending. Yip, an artsy movie. Loved it though because I love the ape-faced Kaas dude. Ewan McGregor is an all time favorite of mine. I also love old song and dance movies. I also love colorful set and great 50's warderobe movies. I also think Rene is cute as a bubbly kitten. And I loved the Know versus Now pun (Danny Kay twist, nicely done). The whole "let's make an old style song and dance comedy" concept totally worked in this movie. As for Ewan's and Rene's duets; their voices harmonice totally. I think I might have to buy the soundtrack!?! I had a great evening with my favorite boys and a very good girlfriend who is going on a semi-blind date tomorrow. Brave girl. She needed the romantic comedy warm-up. Well, of course! Did you think the movies were rented for the animalistic sex appeal of those two actors? posted by Skotta | 4:08 AM | Wednesday, May 19, 2004 I am horribly bad with the updates!!! I've told you before, it's called having a life. Well, this has happened: My little surrogate sister in Denmark has just received her International Bacalaurate degree. Hoooorrray!!! We had a big feast and then another one... Loads of food and cakes and food and strawberry pizzas. I am at my boyfriends now, he is far far away, and staying in his den makes me miss him less. There is something about listening to your boyfriends CD's, sleeping in his bed, showering in his shower, that you feel a little bit closer. A few things I love about my boyfriend: His Soda Stream machine (My siblings will appreciate this. He has the same as we had, the old one in brown and off-white) His need to stay in daily contact Even when he is in the middle of takes in North Carolina and the phone call is "Hi, I'm in a big control room... I just needed to tell you I am thinking of you and I miss you... yeah, that was about it ...shit, I have to run, they are shooting without me... " Papers on his table titled Underwater Sequens Him asking for photos of the stupid center piece flower arrangement I made for the party yesterday His Arab suit His nerdiness and techno geekieness (he gave me a webcam, need I say more) His passion for good things in life (yeah, we have both gained weight in the past 5 months...) The camel he brought me from Cairo That he now wants to take me to Oman, Paris, New York, ... and that I know he will take me there That my toes make him feel better And millions of other things. The Soda Stream machine totally got me in the beginning, I have to say, he scored a few points there. And the fact that our first date included checking on a swan that he was worried about. He doesn't have a clue. I am smitten. Which results in 2.7 liters of ice cream in his freezer right now. Work is going great, I have 4 days off now
posted by Skotta | 9:09 PM | Thursday, May 13, 2004 So, Blogger's got a new look... This is what happens when you don't blog for a while. Just like when you haven't been to your favorite place for a while. You realize, that although the same place, things have happened. Very soon though, you manover with ease in this favorite spot of yours, like you never left. Loads has happened since last blog. Boyfriend came and went... Back from Oman, off to LA. He got me a present from Cairo (oh, yeah, he dashed by Egypt) but didn't have the time to show off his sheik outfit. Yip, my man went to the tailor's in Oman and came out with the full gear. Personally, I am looking forward to the underwear. There is just something about this what-lies-beneath when it comes to a man in a dress (or a skirt).
Okay, mine doesn't smoke, but he is just as cool as Gary Cooper. So what have I done since last time? Oh, yeah, I wen't to a concert with 40.000 other maniacs. It was awesome, while weird. That meaning, some of it was awesome, the rest of it weird. Let's just say I have been introduced to Danish rock music culture (and heritage), and leave it at that. The prince is getting married to his Aussie girlfriend. Having once had an Aussie boyfriend, I can't say I reccommend the breed. I have though heard that the best brain genes lie with the females. That might be true, as there were definetly no brain cells in that Aussie experiment of mine. What was there originally he smoked away... She is the lucky one, having a Danish boyfriend is the shit. Mine is also a prince. Hehehehe, sheik and prince in the same blog, the man will kill me. Okay, not a prince then, although I have gotten royal treatment since I met the guy. I am so spoiled. And loving it. So the prince, being a very chill guy, held a rock concert in Parken (soccer stadium). So that was the concert I went to, hence getting an intro to Danish rock history. There were some names there I have to mention: D-A-D (whom kicked ass) Sanne Salomonsen Sanne is the Danish Tina Turner. She has been around forever. And she had 40.000 people eating out of the palm of her hand. She owned all 40.000 of us. It was awesome. That is kinda what lives of the concert. The rest was kinda lame. Don't tell the Danes I said so. The nation is gone ballistics over the Royal Wedding. They are getting hitched tomorrow and I think we are all going to be relieved when it is finally over. There is going to be so heavy traffic due to the whole schabang that my group of handy's (new shortening for "handicapped kids", got it from one of them) is being held home from school to prevent them sitting for hours on the bus. Thus, I have the day off to go downtown and join the madness! What have I done more since my last blog? I have used my web-cam a lot. I am loving having a digital camera. I am thinking about making a documentary made out of all the 30 second videos I now have of my boyfriend snoring. I applied for a job that I didn't get. I manipulated loads of people to get my hands on 3 amazing little brats that I found perfect for my group of kids. Now I just have to get them settled into the group after the summer vacation and my co-workers will have an easy run for the next few years. You see, the kids can stay there from the age of 6 to 15. These are little 6 year olds. They are kinda too good for our group. Not disabled enough. It's a weird world. I still am opinionated when it comes to the war in Iraq, but I think I am going to refrain from writing about it, so that I don't have to end up making an official apology for death threats against president Bush again... And last but not least: The Eurovision Song Contest or as the Danes call it, the Melodi Grand Prix. The final show is on Saturday. Eurovision is a cult classic. We all love it over here in Europe. In Iceland, the streets are empty during the live broadcast from the contest. A friend of mine is invited to 3 Eurovision parties on Saturday and he can't decide which one to attend. Those of us less popular will try to get close to a TV that evening. It's a yearly "must see", filled with bad taste music and horrible clothing on a monstrous stage. US TV equalent would be first run of "Who want's to marry a millionaire". The kind that make you go all judgemental and evil inside. I am not missing out on the gooey stuff and the gory details Saturday night. posted by Skotta | 11:48 PM | Friday, May 07, 2004 ![]() You are Jackie Burkhart. You love being a pretty princess and love clothes, anything that has to do with fashion. You love to dominate, just because you're used to it. You're very sweet at the same time too. Which 70's Show character are you? brought to you by Quizilla posted by Skotta | 1:36 AM | Worlds bravest man (for listening to his people and pulling the Spanish troops out of Iraq, hence insulting Bush): Prime Minister José Luis RodrÃguez Zapatero of Spain posted by Skotta | 1:10 AM | I would love to blog about Bardot's latest adventures in France where she is now facing charges for encouraging racism. In a book she wrote last year she attacked homosexuals, immigrants, and the unemployed. I would also love to blog about Bush's apology for the abuse of Iraki prisoners. It is a frightening reality that when voting on condemning the act of violence towards those prisoners, 365 voted with and 50 against. Scary fact that 50 members of the House of Representatives find it okay to sexually humiliate and abuse people. I don't care what Bush says about the true nature and hearts of his people, those 50 members represent aprox. 25% of those. Fortunately, I didn't meet many of them during the years I lived there. Some of the photos can be seen in the NYTimes today, and they are revolting. I though reccomend the photos as they cast a light on the reality of the psychological damage both troops and prisoners of war suffer. It is almost more painful to see the troops posing proudly with the naked prisoners, grinning like proud hunters with their pray. What is going on in the heads of these people? I don't think the Arab world will ever forgive this, and to be honest, I don't blame them. I wonder if Bush requires a death scentence over his troops ... In a war, no one ever wins. I would also love to blog about my friend who now knows that the new life in her belly is a boy. And my friend who's little girl has gotten two teeth. Or about work, that is getting stressful as my little friend keeps confiding in me. This time about his mum hitting his sister which is why they get to go to the fun fair this weekend. Empty promise, she is drinking this weekend. Or I could blog about the rock concert that I am going to tomorrow. Or my boyfriend whom I madly miss and is now in Cairo. But I won't because tonight I am going to indulge in a piece of crap book that will help me forget about everything, destress my brain, fall asleep with the light on, and sleep in in the morning. And that is because my weekend has already started. I have tomorrow off. Yay! posted by Skotta | 12:12 AM | Monday, May 03, 2004 How much sushi can one person eat? I love sushi. My boyfriend is in Dubai. Can you hear my excuse to binge? I went to Sushitarian tonight on my way home and ordered some take-out sushi. This is what I ordered: Avocado roll California roll Salmon roll two salmon sushi Edamame beans Okay. There is no such thing as ordering half a roll, or two pieces of a roll. If you want a taste of more than one thing you have to buy a whole roll. An embarrassing moment: The guy asking me how many we were and me answering: "just me". I felt fat. And greedy. And then I smiled and I didn't feel bad anymore. I rememberred a friend in NY whom I love. Happy 8th hon, hope you had a great day! This is a great quality of mine. I like calling it the "rattle" quality, after my boyfriend exclaimed that I was like a baby, that when sad, I only needed a rattle and I was laughing again. He did that wonderful rattle thing on Satuday at Tivoli. I was sad and had a lump in my throat. He dragged me to a booth and shot some balloons and won me a plastic flower and a key-ring. Lump gone. I swear, that man has me in his pocket. Okay, and now to the popular Now Listening section: An album so new that Unckle Google doesn't have a pic of it yet. You get a photo of the band instead.
Blond Readhed, Misery is a Butterfly. I have been a fan for a while now and hail to Hullboy for getting me there. I love this album and it is having me praying for them touring through Copenhagen. I would really, really love to see them live. I have some other yummy music to listen to (such as new N.E.R.D cd and Slowblow soundtrak to Noi Albinoi) but at the moment this album is on and not going anywhere. Slowblow is next. Oh, and yeah, one person can eat 2 salmon sushi 4 pc avocado roll 3 pc California roll 3 pc salmon roll Edamame beans posted by Skotta | 8:19 PM | |
