Wednesday, July 30, 2003 Spent an hour under the shower last night trying to get the paint out of my hair and off my body. I did good and I am half way there. Took the evening off from painting because I am exhausted. Tips on painting: Take the week off. Do not paint whole apartment at the same time unless you took the week off. Have friends help. Use a machine instead of manual labor whenever possible. Do not think you will be able to cook dinner while painting the kitchen. Forget deadlines. Met up with Bart, and this is what he had to say! posted by Skotta | 10:28 PM | Monday, July 28, 2003 All through the day I am coming up with funny stuff to tell you about. By evening time I have forgotten it all. There are things I want to do but I can't seem to make up the sleep I lost this weekend. I am out all day but get extra energy as I walk towards my house in the evenings. I love my place. It is so peaceful in my space and I get refreshed there and re-energized. I still feel tired now, maybe because I so want to be working on my YELLOW kitchen wall and the black chalk board I am going to have in there. Funny how things have to get very messy before they can become very perfect. A friend of mine commented about a month ago that she couldn't wait until I was back to bitching about world politics on this site. Well... I am not going to bitch about politics but I will give you this website once again. I thought the guy who writes had gotten killed but fortunately he is very much alive and writing from Iraq again, getting only 5 hours of electricity daily. Here is Salam Pax. I have been trying to register my own domain name at www.my.dot.tk but have not been successful so far. I reccommend the site though, it is for a good cause. I hope I get this going, then the lazy people can find this site at www. skotta.tk also. So far, I seem to have the domain but have not been able to activate it. Last but not least... my sis is visiting on the 8th. I spend most my days looking forward to the three days I will have her and her family here. I can't wait. But now it is time for bed.
posted by Skotta | 11:07 PM | Saturday, July 26, 2003 I just needed to link you guys to this awesome place that I am going to visit one day. It is called Sedlec Ossuary. It is a church in a small Czech town called Kutna Hora. My friend just came from there with awesome photos. Not available on the internet yet, but she pointed out this website that has the best photos ever from the place. So, check it out. Sample for you:
You really have to read the story of the place. I want to go there one day. Well, it will have to be after my road trip through Italy, my road trip through North America, my visit to New York, my visit to Indiana, my visit to Berlin, my visit to Cologne, my visits to Iceland, my visit to Paris, my visit to Hamburg, my visit to .... God, there are so many of you! Same awesome friend has helped me all night renovating my place. We are now tired and going to bed. Where is my bed? The place is a mess!!! I am dirty as a dog. But boy, do I love that I am getting this done. I have big plans for my small kitchen. Yellow will be the color. Like the sun. I also bought chalk board paint... Sunday I am going to IKEA. I think all my readers know this mekka of mass production at discount prices. My place will look soooo nice when my new tennant moves in and my sister comes to visit in August. posted by Skotta | 3:07 AM | Thursday, July 24, 2003 Another eve out with some singles. I have been roaring with laughter all evening as we have been giving each other advice on the dating game. Some decided that it was best not to date at all. As in; give the girl the right message when you get her phone number so she will know what you are calling for. I could share some of the tips on "what not to do on a blind date" with the guys. The were grateful. Oh, the necessity of sharing info on these things. Guys seem to be able to go on dates and do the same mistakes over and over again because no one tells them that they are not supposed to comment on how expensive the slice of carrot cake is that they bought, after asking for two forks... I guess us girls do mistakes too. Like going on a blind date. Do not ever have other people pick for you.
It was fun though, I can't deny it, and great practise for me. I will at least be more relaxed next time I go out on a date. I am definetly not going to stress over a date unless the butterflies are already in my stomach. posted by Skotta | 10:21 PM | Wednesday, July 23, 2003 I just had to add this little nugget for my brother who asked about this lady. So here she is... Indian Princess Leoncie who is a talented feminist in Iceland. I originally published her photo and the lyrics to "Icelandic Man" but decided to delete them again as this text scared me off: Warning!!! It is strictly forbidden, illegal and a violation of copyrights to steal photo's or text material from this website, and doing so can lead to a lawsuit. Noone has the right to reproduce or reuse the material without written permission from the copyrighted owner of this website !!! I therefore strongly reccommend visiting the page itself... it's a treat. Plus... there is a new link in the link of the week... posted by Skotta | 11:22 PM | Hi again. Feels like a while since I have written something here. I have been having too much fun, and been too exhausted at nights, to be able to write. Loads of fun stuff happened this week. I even went on a blinde date! Not at all expected and a lot of fun it was. No butterflies in my stomach though so I don't plan on having anything more happen with that guy. I am not really there yet and am basically enjoying being single too much. Summer is fun though, and there is a lot of romance in the air. I have so many friends who are trying to gain the courage to date... we are a bunch of singles who are happy as hell so I guess we are not desperate enough to get our shit togeather and go into the dating thing. But I can feel that many people around me are keeping their eyes open. It is a lot of fun but somewhere inside I almost feel that it would be a shame if we all of a sudden had boyfriends and girlfriends. Life is just so good and the relationship stuff makes everything so damn complicated. We are also very picky, all of us, so I guess that doesn't make things any easier. I have lost the laundry battle. It has been so warm that I keep adding stuff to the laundry basket. I come home every day dirty as a dog. Today we took the kids to a park where there were horses and goats and bunnys and pigs, we had a camp fire, and there was a big fight with the freshly mowed grass. I came home today with grass in my hair, grass in my bra, grass in my undies. Some of the kids will come home with grass down their t-shirts... hehehe, at one point I had managed to get four boys trying to get the grass out of their shirts at the same time. So I keep playing. Last weekend was spent at the beach, next weekend will be used to work on the apartment. I had promised myself that I would be finished with the place before August 1st. It is just really hard to get to it when the weather is so nice. I am out of the house all the time. Now I am taking my sunburnt self to bed. ps. want to thank the wonderful people who had me over for barbecue tonight. It is one of the nicer evenings I have had in a long time. I hope we do it again soon. And again. And again. posted by Skotta | 11:04 PM | Friday, July 18, 2003 Now playing: Beyoncé Dangerously in Love Rewiew: First ten songs interesting, enven fun. Number eleven tolerated due to Luther Vandross being Luther Vandross and having more soul than Beyoncé. Still, the song feels loooong. The rest dissappointing, I really had to force myself to listen through songs 12-16. Song fourteen promising, jazzy and playful with the rythm but too long but lyrics and tune actually boring. The last song is too corny for me to tolerate. Ten songs out of sixteen is not bad, five of them duets though with some really good musicians who really pull the tune up by adding some personality. The girl is young (and fixed on astrology...), will hopefully grow into her talent. Radiohead has only had one listening but so far it seems good. I was a bit worried in the beginning as the start didn't promise the juice I get from their old CD's. The CD picked up speed and I look forward to listening to it again. Miriam Makeba rocks. posted by Skotta | 5:33 PM | Thursday, July 17, 2003 Adventures of a Domestic Goddess Man, I have worked hard today. I left for work this morning at 6 AM. After work I went to work at my other job. When I came home I threw some table cloths in the washing machine. I have been going through my gigantic laundry basket in the past few weeks. I have laundry there since Christmas... Now I am finally seeing bottom and proud of it. There was aparently laundry day in the house, there was a machine going on the floor above me. We live in a very old house, so if we all do laundry at the same time the whole house shakes. I have finally learned how my washing machine operates so now the machine tumbles less and it saves my kitchen from being shaken apart. I am sure my downstairs neighbours are grateful as their ceiling is probably falling down. After three long bike rides today, grocery shopping, and the heat, I ran to the shower after throwing the table cloths in. Out of the shower I put the new Radiohead CD in and started working again. This time I was reparing the damage the workers did when installing the bathroom in my apartment. There is a lot of work to be done before I can paint. Switched to Miriam Makeba. Perfect timing did that I was finished with all I could do for now in the apartment when the washing was done. My beautiful green table cloth apparently did not hold its color so well. It held it's own quite well but aparently decided to share with the others. I now have a yellowish-greenish table cloth, a brownish-greenish table cloth, a striped yellowish-greenish and blue-greenish table cloth, and a tiled greyish-greenish blackish-greenish table cloth. And some greenish-pinkish and greenish-yellowish rags. The situation was saved with a slice of devilish cake made possible by Duncan Hines.
I tried to find a good photo of the ultimate Domestic Goddess: Martha Stewart. They were all so boring but funny enough, Google came up with this picture of a Thanksgiving turkey when I typed in Martha Stewart:
I kind of feel like this these days. I also have a tan. posted by Skotta | 9:06 PM | Wednesday, July 16, 2003 Try this soon, before Google fixes its site: 1) Go to Google.com (http://www.google.com); 2) type in (but don't hit return): "weapons of mass destruction"; 3) Hit the "I'm feeling lucky" button, instead of the normal "Google search" button; 4) READ what appears to be a normal error message carefully. posted by Skotta | 5:20 PM | I smell of sea weed. I love that smell. Summer smell that I didn't grow up with but is now a part of my life. There are many things that I didn't grow up with that I am enjoying being a part of my summer today. The heat, swimming in the sea, eating fresh fruit, having summer clothes, having a tan, walks in the woods with funny animals and bugs, bonfires. We took the kids to the beach today and had a sea weed fight among the waves. I love my life, I love my job. posted by Skotta | 5:00 PM | Tuesday, July 15, 2003 We are having twoshowerdays. At leas those of us who bike back and forth to work. I am loving it. I have not managed to make the link to my archives accessible. It makes me very furry in the head. I am listening to Ray Charles today. He is good for biking in the sun. I used to have a boyfriend who was a drummer. He used to get very offended when I commented that certain music was good for certain things. Like doing the dishes. What a pain in the arse that man could be. Hahahahahaha... posted by Skotta | 5:55 PM | Monday, July 14, 2003 Okay. I'll admit to something. I am trying to blog a lot because I am hoping to get rid of the crazy dancing chicken on the page. They take too much space, hence cramp the look of the page. Will now eat corn on cob. Before it turnes to pop-corn. posted by Skotta | 10:24 PM | Shite! Have boiled all water off corn on cob. Will now eat roasted corn on cob. There goes my reputation as a brilliant cook. I just wanted to add that I painted a huge painting tonight. I am a genious. posted by Skotta | 10:18 PM | I am trying very hard to get my archives visible on this page. I have gotten great support from my brother who sent me the html for it. I am not doing very well with it, I must admit. Maybe it is because my forhead feels sunburnt after today. I will continue trying tomorrow. In the meantime, thank you great brother for providing the html! I have eaten a red pepper and I am boiling corn on the cob. I was too lazy to make the salad I intended to eat for dinner. The weatherman predicts another hot day tomorrow. I will have to go practially naked to work. I thank God for the lack of humidity. The Danes sometimes think it is humid here but it is nothing like New York City. posted by Skotta | 10:13 PM | One day a year the ants fly.
This I learned today when the kids called me out to show me this wonder. A small part of the playground was alive with ants and they were taking off. One can't help but feel that there is some kind of magic going on when one gets to witness something that nature has happen only one day a year. And this happens all over Denmark today. There will be no ants flying tomorrow. posted by Skotta | 5:50 PM | Friday, July 11, 2003 Too tired to write a blog. Will add this though... My sibings (and I) have a webpage that has a link of the week. This week the link was so good I had to let you guys know about it. Here goes! posted by Skotta | 10:27 PM | Thursday, July 10, 2003 Hi ya'll! I am not writing very much these days. Summer has this effect on me. I am such a viking at work, we are still making weapons. Today I made the coolest shield and fought one of my co-workers. I won, killed him with an ax after a brave fight. I am having so much fun at work, I can't believe I am getting paid for this. I am working mainly with guys these weeks. I was handy with the drill today, didn't tell the guys that I know how to handle tools after all the carpendry and welding courses in art school. "Oh my, if I had a big drill like this, my home would be full of holes!" I am awesome.
The weeks are flying by. Summer will be over before I know it. I am planning on getting my hands on the new Radiohead CD this weekend. I was told by a friend who saw them in concert two weeks ago that the CD is promising. I can't wait. I have all their CD's so far, I guess that makes me a fan. posted by Skotta | 9:26 PM | Tuesday, July 08, 2003 Now playing...: Love in the Time of Science by Emiliana Torrini published 2000 "La Mia Vita Violenta" by Blonde Redhead published 1995 One might say that I am rediscovering old friends. No news really. I have some hours of sleep to make up as I seem to be having too much fun these days. Last two weekends have been hard on the partying front. I love summer. Work is great. We are introducing role playing to the kids. The nerds who played D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) have now grown up to be fun loving individuals with a passion for adventures. Today and yesterday we made weapons with the kids, and costumes, for the game. There are knights and princesses, stupid trolls and magicians, running around at work now. The kids have been great, spending hours at the sewing machines making capes and hats. There are crowns with jewels and swords and axes. Then we all go out and fight. The rules of the game are hard to follow when having fun and the adrenalin is rushing... 5 year old Mustafa had his eye poked today but the brave knight he was he didn't cry much and killed the troll who had been so unfortunate to have caused the accident. Rule number one: no hitting in the head with the weapons. My violent handicapped friend is having a ball. He thinks it sucks though to have to follow stupid rules. posted by Skotta | 7:49 PM | Sunday, July 06, 2003 I have had eventful days. My legs are so tired, I walked all over town last night in high heels. Me and my friend found a bar in town where a lot of good looking men hang out. Bonus added: It's not a gay bar!!! I love this town. posted by Skotta | 9:27 PM | Friday, July 04, 2003 Chicken
I love chicken. Chicken is the cheapest food in Denmark. Hence, I have chicken for dinner allmost all the time. When you eat chicken all the time then you get bored with eating it the same way all the effin time. Hence, you get creative. Now, I am not talking about sticking funny things in the chicken (although I admit to having it do a little dance before it gets cooked). I am talking about various ways of cooking it. Well, now I am going to eat so this little post will have to continue another day. For those interested, I am still sick as a dog. posted by Skotta | 9:23 PM | Wednesday, July 02, 2003 Okay... the consequenses are here. I am at home, sick. I am thouroughly enjoying being home, not so much enjoying being sick. I get to spend the day in bed and read a book. I also get to have a very soar throat and very dirty hair. Love it. posted by Skotta | 1:11 PM | Tuesday, July 01, 2003 Fenomenal! Bjork was amazing. What can I say? I was totally blown away by this concert. Her voice is in top form, I have seen her live many times but never heard her sing so beautifully. The strings were amazing. The harp was amazing. Leila was amazing. The computer/DJs were amazing. Her make up and outfit was amazing. Her stylist kicks ass. The stage was amazing. The production was amazing. Firworks and fire.
My voice is gone. I danced myself exhausted. I have seldomly been so inspired by music. Inspired to be happy and alive. I drove with Bjork and the crew to Roskilde and I drove back with them afterwards. The busride back was a trip, there was dancing and gymnastics on the bus. I was tired but happy when I got home, I missed out on a great party at the hotel bar because I had to go to work the morning after. I did get to eat great food, pee in a clean toilet (a luxury at the Roskilde Festival), and dance a lot at the party after the concert. I am so tired now. Saturday night I went out with my friend Virtuosa (whom I adore) and some other great people. I have seldomly laughed so hard as I did that night. I love it when I get to hang out with really bright and funny people. My friends have a sharp sense of humor. They are cosmopolitan, educated, and left wing. Topics span politics to geriatric sex. Picture these very bright and funny people in a kareoke bar at 3 AM in the morning. I got to know one of the funniest journalists I have met. He is publishing his first novel this X-mas, and although I don't know anything about the book I am going to get myself a copy of it. More later, I have to stop now. posted by Skotta | 8:23 PM | |
