Thursday, November 30, 2006 Here is a bit more on my "favorite" Danish political party. DF. According to Nyhedsavisens colum "Helt aerligt", by Helen Hajjaj, DF only wants candidates that have a clean slate, no criminal record, there is. Exept for people convicted for racism, they are okay to join. You see, they are trying to get the "racism paragraf" abolished, so they can't be critizising the racists, can they? Helen Hajjaj adds, roughly translated by me, "so, next time I get caught jaywalkin, I can say that the fine doesn't count because I want the traffic laws changed?". More on DF. They are calling for a national vote on animal sex. Wish you could read this, those who read Danish, here's the article. Got to love those DF'rs. Still can't belive they rule the country. Can't wait to cast a vote on weather or not animal sex should be legal in Denmark. Shame I can't vote on wheather or not racism should be legal in Denmark. Shoot. Forgot I can't vote in Denmark. Bloody immigrant. posted by Skotta | 1:29 PM | I was going to send this link to my brother but then I thought, hey, why give away a good thing when you can post it yourself?

For those who are following on the house issue: We made an offer, they made an offer back, we told them politely that our first offer is valid until Monday. If we don't get this house we're waiting to bid again until January/February. You see, we've been told that there is always a slight boom in the marked after Christmas because there are so many relationships that don't survive the holidays. How aweful to try to benefit on others unhappiness. On the other hand, we are so close to Christmas we've got nothing to loose. The title "mother" has made me kinda ruthless, hasn't it? Speaking of Mothers, did you know that one of the most famous rodk bands in Bulgaria is called Big Mama Scandal? posted by Skotta | 12:05 PM | Monday, November 27, 2006 Any Tom Waits fans out there? ![]() Here is an interwiew with Tom Waits, taken by Pitchfork magazine. Sunday, November 26, 2006 Both the houses we so far have been looking at had an Open House today. The bids should come rolling in. Not. The marked is at a stand still. They had a Best Bid going on for one of the houses and we are still just chilling. The less expensive house has been for sale since june, the more expensive house has been for sale since february. I will be very surprised if both of them get sold all of a sudden after this weekend. If they do, well, hell, there will be other houses. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, rent is cheap. We decided that we'd go with a very good advice that goes "If you don't know what to do, do nothing." So, we're doing nothing until we know what to do. posted by Skotta | 10:55 PM | Tuesday, November 21, 2006 8 baby corn on the cob 1 avocado 1 large gourmet mushroom 1/4 sweet potato Sweet potato boiled with baby corn. I can't believe how much this kid eats. ONE WHOLE Avocado and a whole tray of baby corn went into this meal. I picked a bit of the baby corn out and ate it myself. This was a very tasty meal and he was not at all happy with me eating his baby corn on the cob. I guess some of the "Happy Belly" poridge is on it's way out now. It does change you, becoming a mom. I played a CD for the boy (and myself), and on this CD there is a song where a girl sings sitting in a car outside the vet. Her daddy was taking her cat in to sleep because they didn't like the cat hair messing up the furniture. For the first time in my life this song almost made me cry. I bought books for them in Iceland this summer. The books have been standing and staring at me for a few months now. The reason they haven't reached the midwives yet is my trouble with my phucking printer. I won't get into details. It was a long and brave fight over many months. Tuesday, November 14, 2006 Ed Bradley passed away Thursday. He was only 65. For those who don't know, Ed Bradley is probably best known as one of the 60 Minutes correspondents. You can read a tribute to him here where they call him one of the most visible black journalists on television who broke down racial barriers and became a role model for young African Americans. ![]() I quote the tribute: "I was told, 'You can be anything you want, kid,'" he once told an interviewer. "When you hear that often enough, you believe it." I love that. posted by Skotta | 4:04 PM | Monday, November 13, 2006 I spent all Saturday at a conference. The main topic of the conference was prayer and meditation. The cief speaker was a woman called Linda from New York. If someone told me, six years ago exactly today, that I would one day attend a conference on prayer and meditation, I'd thought they were mad. Raving. I would have never believed them. Good thing nobody told me. I would have missed out on one of the best Saturdays of my life. And today I celebrate with a baby boy who loves when I dance for him. He is learning how to crawl and they tell me that once he masters this, the peace is out. So if this is true, soon my posts will be less frequent unless I try taking time off every evening to attend to this blog. He is a quick learner. No other news really. My days are simple and beautiful (although I am still sick, boy is well again). Today I have experienced my boy have a talk with his grandmother via webcam. This was a big moment. Although the days are repetitive, each day brings something new. More new things today: Boy listenes to Ruth Reginalds first time. Yet, the feeling is that it is shrinking and now we are itching to buy a new home. We now sleep, eat and work in the living room. The bedroom is now used for storage and my current visitor from Iceland. What happened is that we got sick, all of us. Then the baby started caughing. Then we had to wipe the damp walls in the bedroom with a towel. It was dripping in there. The damp is not a new problem, it comes every winter. Problem is, the damp is very unhealthy for sick grown ups and baby. And the mother freaked and moved everyone into the living room. No way my baby is getting pheumonia at the age of 6 months if I can avoid it. Baby stopped caughing, everyone sleeps better. Apartment feels smaller. There is hardly space to sit around the table with the double bed in the living room. There is an old saying in Iceland that goes "Those who get along well can sit close". That pretty much sums it up for us. posted by Skotta | 12:55 AM | Monday, November 06, 2006 Here I go again, bringing DK into negative light. I have to say though, this did surprise me, and it sure as hell scares me: According to Politiken (Danish newspaper), a new study done by IFKA shows that every 5th Dane is pro death penalty. The death penalty was abolished in Denmark in 1993. These are positive news, says one form IFKA, who stated that although that was a relatively high number, he had expected the number of pro death penalty Danes to be higher. The pro death penalty Danes have these other things in common: They read Ekstra Bladet, vote for DF, and lower education. (Can you say that? Lower education? vs. higher education?) According to the article, 46% of DF voters are pro death penalty. For those of you who read Danish, you can find the article here. posted by Skotta | 3:50 PM | I have a friend in Iceland who is running for 2nd place on the VG (Left-Green Movement) list. This revelation has been dawning upon me slowly, while the full blast of the thing is coming to me this week, about 6:30 AM every morning: There are no Equal Rights between the sexes. Women bear children, therefore, there can only be Feminism. Let me tell you how my inner Feminist is showing it's beautiful face. I want to make clear that I am not feeling sorry for myself, I am just having a realisation. After you have read this you will have no clue how the theory above connects to this text but hey, read on anyway. Realistic Me knew all along that I would be the main caretaker of this baby. Naive Me thought that this meant that due to AB's irregular working hours and my steady job, I would be the one responsible for picking up the child and delivering it to kindergarten. You know, just to ensure that the kid would be picked up, since daddy's work (and his infamous inner watch) is of such inpredictable nature he is not to be counted on in that manner. No reason to let a child suffer for his father's line of work, or in this case, him magically always being at least an hour late for just about everything in his life exept my pregnancy. Kudos to the man for showing up for his little family for every check up, scanning, and glucose test, and of course the birth. That is reality and it is a reality that can actually be lived with. Reality that is harder to live with is that Naive Me is now living a life that is kind of single mom life. Single mom is hard. Single mom is down right abusive when you actually have a partner. Naive Me is going "Hey, single mom wasn't a part of the deal!!" Let me tell you about my current life situation. AB's average working hours at the moment are from 9 AM to 1 AM. Some days he is at work at 7 AM and some nights he works to 3 AM. Last month he worked a few nights through, sleeping 3 hours at work in the morning before working wome more. Then I didn't see him at all. Needless to say, neither did his son. It feels like we haven't communicated normally for about two months. Life becomes quite ridiculous at times in a situation like this. Once I came close to having the baby with me to the gyno. We were just lucky that the gyno was running late so AB made it in time before I had to spread my legs. No drama, all went well, but you get the picture. On top of working like a mad person, and probably because he works like a mad person, AB got sick. No rest for the wicked, man went to work sick. Such is the life of small business owners. Another part of our reality is that people over 35 who go to work sick don't get better. The few evenings he has been home, he has tried taking the baby but is obviously too sick and too tired. He's made dinner instead ... which is great help while all stay at home moms know that this is just not the same as having someone else taking care of the baby for a while. We don't mind making dinner after a whole day with baby. We'd love to make dinner. Just take the damn baby before I do something ugly. Yesterday, the man was finally sick and tired of being sick and tired ... He wen't to the doctor (for the second time) who told him he is possibly a host organism for this shit he has been fighting with for about a month now. The normal "tough shit penicillin" didn't do it for him, the ugly buggers became resistant and are now breeding in his body. If this turns out to be right (we'll know on Tuesday) he has to take a month and a half of "the worst bad ass penicillin the doctor can come up with". Where does this situation leave me? A bit drained, I must admit. Mostly because I am sick after standing in the rain twice this week. Saturday night I was out for 45 minutes in the rain trying to hail a taxi to go pick up the baby from the suffering father who had made a dramatic escape from his evil, yet exhausted girlfriend, to his mothers house. Tuesday I was out in the rain with the baby on my way to the doctor and back. AB now generously wants to donate a rainsuit to the mother. It also leaves me sad that the difference between Skotta the Girlfriend and Skotta the Mother is that I can't take care of me and sick boyfriend, I can only take care of me and baby. You want to be nice to someone that is sick and it makes me very sad that I am usually too tired to dig out that good old empathy. The really hard part is when the baby finally sleeps a whole night, the sick boyfriend and my ailing back keep me awake! And now back to the feminism. This experience of being indoors for 6 days with baby (both of us have a cold), on 24 hour duty almost the whole time, has made me realize that although I love this baby madly (only on day 6 did I call my girlfriends and insist they came over for coffee), and I love my boyfriend madly (only Mother Theresa and the Dalai Lama could beat me in love and serenity when it comes to this man), that when this situation is over I am insisting that we sit down and discuss what it means "being a family in 2006". I know that in our case it includes saving a small company that has been our main income for the past three years. I just want to discuss the other things it intailes. You know, just to make sure that this isn't a permanent situation, and ensure that my relationship is a permanent situation. I can't say about other women but I am getting a bad feeling that many really just want to go to work to be able to say in the evening "I'm tired, you take the kid" and "Hey, I've earned my weekend too, it's my turn to sleep in." While Equal Rights say "we want the same pay for our work", Feminism says "you made this baby, you take your share of it!" and "This is not a job, this is a human being." Right now I just think that people who have more than one baby must be mad. I will have to get time off or I'll go on strike. I will turn loony, leave the boyfriend and trow the baby in the bin. I wouldn't be the first blond to go on strike. ![]() In the meantime, back at the ranch, Naive Me and Realistic Me are on baby duty 24/7. posted by Skotta | 7:26 AM | Friday, November 03, 2006 Once in a while it is good to write a gratitude list. I decided today that I would write a "things I like" list. On that list would be things like when my son falls asleep in the middle of a meal. when my son giggles over my sneezes. when my son giggles over me blowing my nose. when my sister tells me she met my dear old friend at the supermarket, tells me she looked cute and that she still reads my blog. same friend writing me an email telling me that my blog is like an injection of vitamins. people in my house bringing remidies for a cold (whole family sick at the moment). a friend dropping by for a cup of coffee. AB making me dinner. my son not being afraid of the vacum cleaner although he is terrified of the blender. my parents fumbling with the web-cam. visitors from abroad. AB being patient with the quantity of visitors from abroad. pictures of my favorite family in New York (well, upstate). being a family with AB and baby. Christmas. And for those of you that find my blog more interesting with pictures, here is one of Minilla, son of Godzilla.
