Tuesday, February 26, 2008 Okay, I'll admit it. I am only blogging to avoid having to move the big and heavy latex matress on my bed and putting a bedsheat on it. AB is out playing with one of his old buddies. The one who took the longest to grow up (not there yet) and smoked pot on a daily basis until his girlfriend dumped him a few months back. Then he decided to become abstinent. I come from a culture where almost 40 year olds who still smoke pot are called junkies who are in need of a stint in rehab. The Icelandic take on it is basically that if you are still doing, at almost 40, the things you did when you were 16, on a daily basis, except for eating, shitting, bathing and/or excersizing, you probably can't stop doing them without professional help. Let me refraise this: When I lived in Iceland, the Icelandic take on this was ... (I am aware of the fact that Icelandic culture has changed quite a bit since I moved). Actually, my culture also tells me that there is no such thing as staying abstinent. In my culture, the real shit is called becoming sober. In Denmark you can totally fry your brain with pot at 40 and it is widely socially acceptable. In Iceland it used to be unthinkable to be doing substances your host wasn't doing, but this you can do in Denmark. I sat at a New Years eve party, very pregnant, next to a guy older than me, who was oblivious to the fact that a woman in my state should probably not inhale. (In Iceland, a pregnant woman partying with active substance abusers would definetly not count as kosher behaviour). This was not my first nor my last indirect pot smoking during my pregnancy since I still enjoyed a full life like a normal person, going to concerts and partying. Okay, I'm not exactly talking classical music here, but hell, I don't remember those kinds of clouds of smoke when I partied in Iceland. And I didn't travel with the lighter crowd. (Don't comment on the indirect pot smoking while pregnant ... I was big but quite mobile ... and of course I didn't inhale ...) Anywho. AB's connection to this guy, when I met AB, was mainly going to the guy's house to play computer games until dawn. You know, doing guy stuff. And probably to do some non-inhaling indirect smoking and feel all nostalgic before going out to participate in the real world again. So the old friend invited AB over tonight. I reminded AB that his friend was welcome to come to our house if they wanted to hang out more often. My secret mission being that they could babysit while I go out. I don't think this will happen though. You see, my own experience tells me it is harder to stay abstinent at other peoples houses... Labels: I didn't inhale posted by Skotta | 10:31 PM | |
